This week brought with it the premiere of Fox News host and commentator Greg Gutfeld’s newest show, “Gutfeld!”
Airing weeknights at 10:00 pm EST, the show is basically a rebranded version of “The Greg Gutfeld Show,” a highly rated late night talk show that used to only air on Saturdays.
While the show covered a myriad of topics throughout its first week on air, on Friday the focus was on whether non-politicians make the best politicians.
Gutfeld was inspired to broach the topic because of a new online poll — his favorite type — that revealed “that most Americans want to see people like Matthew McConaughey and Dwayne Johnson run for office.”
Specifically, 58 percent of Americans reportedly support McConaughey running for Texas governor and Johnson running for president.
Gutfeld wasn’t surprised.

“They’re both highly popular, thoughtful individuals who emit charisma like flatulence from a cattle farm, so why shouldn’t they run? It’s not like politicians are doing a good job of being politicians. When McConaughey makes a movie, it’s either a hit or it’s not, and when the Rock jumped off a top rope, he made sure he landed on that elbow,” Gutfeld noted.
Plus, he added, former President Donald Trump demonstrated that sometimes “the best politician is someone who hasn’t been corrupted by the system, someone who has had a private sector job, even if it’s pretend, the animal who isn’t in it for the prestige or the interns.”
“I’d rather they show up rich and powerful than leave that way. We saw this with Trump. He wasn’t impressed by the perks or the power. He already had those. Even Air Force One was a step down, unlike Joe Biden, where Air Force One was a step up and a step down, then a step up and then step down,” he said.

One of Gutfeld’s panelists, retired Staff Sgt. Johnny “Joey” Jones, agreed with his assessment.
“What makes celebrities such good, you know, like options for politicians is that we know they can lie to our face and make us believe it. And you know, with politicians, they’re trying to pretend they’re not. That was the Trump appeal. It’s not that what he said offended you — it’s that he was willing to say it,” Jones said.
And he was willing to say it about anybody, including actual politicians.
“Trump would always almost point to the politician and go ‘what is with this guy.’ I mean, that was this whole thing from when he started. He just kept going, it’s like forget about me, I’m not perfect, I’m an arrogant, obnoxious TV host, but ‘those guys,'” have something wrong with them, Gutfeld explained.
He added, “And everybody was like, finally somebody’s saying [something about] those guys.”
That being said, another panelist, comedian Michael Loftus, expressed excitement over the prospect of Hollywood celebrities in particular running for office, because the idea of them enduring the hell that is politics made him happy.
“I love the idea of celebrities running for public office. This is great because they think they know what they’re doing. They’re so wrapped up in their own BS and they’re surrounded by people telling them they’re wonderful, and they think that Hollywood is horrible and it doesn’t get worse. It does! Politics is so much worse. They chew these people up and they spit them out,” he said.
And the truth is Hollywood celebrities don’t even have to run for office to experience this. Just consider what happened to comedian Kathy Griffin, whose whole life was upended when she tried mixing far-left politics into her “comedy.”

Finishing up the discussion was radio show host Sonnie Johnson, who argued that celebrities are just proxies for the regular politicians who “suck.”
“The thing about why non-politicians are running for political spots is because politicians suck so bad. So if you have people that don’t know policy, that don’t know context, that don’t know history, that don’t understand anything about the current political standing — they just want to jump in and regurgitate talking points — that is what America is tired of,” she said.
Especially black Americans, she claimed.
“We just don’t believe you anymore. You can’t get us to want to register anymore, you can’t get us to want to vote anymore, you can’t make us buy your lies anymore, so you want to get a cultural icon that is better at selling them than you are, but they’re going to hire the same consultant, they’re going to hire the same PR firms and they’re going to push the same BS that the politicians are pushing,” she said.
Speaking of which, “transgender woman” and former reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner is mulling a run against California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and he’s reportedly brought in former Trump 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale (who was unceremoniously fired last summer after performing poorly on the job) to help him win …
