Aspiring California governor Caitlyn Jenner, a “transgender woman,” is reportedly being assisted in his efforts by two high-profile figures linked to former President Donald Trump.
When Axios reported Tuesday that Jenner has begun mulling a run against California Gov. Gavin Newsom as a Republican if the governor is recalled, it confirmed that he’s receiving help from Caroline Wren, a longtime GOP fundraiser who helped raise money for Trump’s campaign last year.
A day later, The New York Times rushed in with a scoop of its own: Also assisting Jenner is Trump 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale.
“Ms. Jenner, a longtime Republican, is being advised by Brad Parscale, Donald J. Trump’s former campaign manager, according to a person familiar with their discussions. Mr. Parscale would not manage Ms. Jenner’s campaign but is guiding her on who to hire for key roles,” the Times reported.

Whether or not this is good news or bad news for Jenner remains unclear.
On one hand, Parscale was unceremoniously ousted as campaign manager by then-President Donald Trump last July and demoted to a lower position.
“I was removed. I didn’t get a warning sign really that — no one asked me to change my plan. No one asked me to do anything different. I don’t know exactly why I was removed and why, all of the sudden, we had to challenge the plan,” he admitted in a Fox News interview in December.

The beginning of the end for him started earlier that summer when the president’s Tulsa rally flopped, despite Parscale having spent days claiming on Twitter that millions of people had signed up for it.
But on the other hand, Trump has a history of switching campaign managers at a moment’s whim, and more importantly, Parscale has always excelled at what he’s trained to do, which is handle digital marketing.
Prior to being promoted to campaign manager in early 2018, he’d served as the digital media director of both Trump’s 2020 and 2016 campaigns. He performed so well in that capacity that in 2017 The Washington Post dubbed him “the genius who won Trump’s campaign.”
It’s not clear whether Parscale has any intention of providing Jenner with his marketing services.
What’s known is that Jenner will need marketing and more to defeat Newsom, who’s an incredibly powerful Democrat figure in a Democrat state who’s backed by the most powerful Democrat in powerful, President Joe Biden.
However, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, believes defeating Newsom is possible.

In an interview earlier this month with Politico, he said that the ongoing recall effort against the California governor mirrors the recall effort against then-Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat who was ultimately ousted from office in 2003 and replaced by none other than Schwarzenegger.
“It’s pretty much the same atmosphere today as it was then. There was dissatisfaction, to the highest level. … And it’s the same with the momentum. Something that sets it off to a higher level, kind of the straw that breaks the camel’s back … like an explosion,” Schwarzenegger said to Politico.
He added, “In Newsom’s case, it was the French Laundry thing. With us, it was the power outages in 2003.”
The beginning of the end for former Gov. Davis were multiple large-scale blackouts that began in 2000 and lasted through parts of 2001. Meanwhile in the present, voters have had their lives turned upside down because of Newsom’s draconian coronavirus restrictions, all as they’ve been forced to watch the likes of the governor and his pals flout virtually every single rule.

Of course, Jenner isn’t Schwarzenegger, and it’s not clear that he’d be able to mount as effective a campaign as Schwarzenegger had decades earlier.
It’s also not clear who else Jennifer might have to face off with, though Trump administration official Richard Grenell has suggested he might run.
“Of course, if a public official is still failing to deliver on their promises, and if you can’t limit their term or recall them in time, there’s always one other option: you can run against them yourself,” he said at the end of his CPAC speech this February, referencing a then-potential recall election against Newsom.
If he were to run, Jenner would face quite the uphill battle.
