‘Imagine’ 2.0: Liberal celebs praise ‘Health Safety Seal’ for businesses, but Twitter isn’t impressed

Left-leaning actors, actresses, and others in the entertainment industry appeared in a public service announcement hyping a “WELL Health Safety Seal” for businesses and communities as a way to reassure people.

“If you wanna get back to your favorite places and feel confident that they have put your health and safety first, look for the WELL Health Safety Seal,” several entertainers including Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Nero, and Lady Gaga say as the PSA opens.

Then, Dr. Richard Carmona, former Surgeon General under President George W. Bush, explains further that the seal was developed by the International WELL Building Institute, “the global authority on healthy buildings.”

Next, IWBI founder Paul Scialla notes that the safety rating was “informed by years of research and input from hundreds of leading virologists, public health experts, epidemiologists, and building professionals around the world.”

As the PSA continues, entertainers again explain how the seal aims to make Americans feel better and safer as they venture out once again following months of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

In all, Lady Gaga, Lopez, DeNiro, Carmona, Michael B. Jordan, Serena Williams, Wolfgang Puck, and Deepak Chopra appear in the PSA.

Specifically, the seal is meant to convey that businesses and venues have clean and prepared environments in terms of air and water quality, surfaces, emergency programs, “and health services.”

“So look for the WELL Health Safety Seal on the outside and feel more confident going inside,” Lopez and Lady Gaga say to end the PSA.

“The WELL Building Standard version 2…is a vehicle for buildings and organizations to deliver more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and well-being,” the organization says in an explainer on its website.

“The role buildings can play in human health and well-being has never been more evident or more important. Thanks to an evolving evidence base, we understand more about the relationship between the physical environment and human health than ever before,” the explainer continues.

“We know how to create spaces that enhance – rather than hinder – health and well-being. We can measure – and then improve – the quality of our air, water and light. We can design environments that fuel our bodies, move us, keep us connected, inspire our best work and facilitate a good night’s sleep,” it adds.

The “Ten Concepts” behind the rating measure air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community.

“The WELL Community concept aims to support access to essential healthcare, build a culture of health that accommodates diverse population needs and establish an inclusive, engaged occupant community” the ‘community’ section notes.

“Promoting community well-being must begin with supporting the fundamental factors that influence individual and collective health. Providing equal and affordable access to comprehensive health services supports better individual and community health outcomes, reducing health disparities and overall healthcare costs,” the section notes further.

Some have already begun to speculate that cities and communities will require the seal in order for local businesses and venues to operate in the post-COVID environment, though it’s not clear how the process would work.

Meanwhile, the new celebrity-filled public service announcement was met with less-than-enthusiastic responses on Twitter:
