President Biden is set to fully reverse former President Trump’s policies that cut off Palestinian aid and is reportedly preparing to give at least $75 million to Palestinians one day after announcing they would receive $15 million in assistance.
Congress was notified of the aid amount by the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The funds do not require congressional approval since they were appropriated in the 2020 fiscal year budget. Those funds were never given to the Palestinians because the Trump administration cut them off due to terrorism concerns and tensions over relocating the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This follows Biden’s continuing efforts to engage Iran in nuclear talks.
Trump axed over $200 million to the Palestinians and Biden is well on his way to giving it back to them. Some reports are saying the promised amount is closer to $125 million. All in the name of repairing what Biden sees as damaged relations caused by Trump’s foreign policy. The move is sure to upset America’s Israeli allies.
Congress was also notified that USAID will dole out $10 million for cross-border, people-to-people reconciliation activities.

The State Department will also reportedly fork over $40 million from the 2016 and 2017 budget that was earmarked for security cooperation programs. Specifically, this applies to International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement activities in the West Bank.
Biden tried to keep the aid quiet but that never works in politics. There was no public announcement of the aid. Pro-Israel Americans are paying attention and they are not happy.
The media has branded it an “act of kindness.” The Associated Press reported that the aid is meant to regain the “trust and goodwill” of the Palestinians.
The aid is reportedly meant to support economic expansion and to increase access to basic necessities and programs that involve Palestinian society in the West Bank and Gaza.
State Department spokesman Ned Price made it clear the Biden administration was resuming financial support to the Palestinians. “We continue to believe that American support for the Palestinian people, including financial support, is consistent with our values. It is consistent with our interests. Of course, it is consistent with the interests of the Palestinian people,” Price lamely stated to reporters.
“It’s also consistent with the interests of our partner, Israel, and we’ll have more to say on that going forward,” he added. That is a highly debatable statement and one wonders if Israel actually sees it that way.
Biden is supporting Trump’s Abraham Accords… at least for now. They were signed in September 2020 and encompassed former President Trump’s plan to normalize relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
“President Biden has been clear in his intent to restore U.S. assistance programs that support economic development and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people and to take steps to reopen diplomatic missions that were closed by the last U.S. administration,” acting U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Richard Mills stated in remarks to the U.N. Security Council on Jan. 26.
Conservative commenters on Twitter were disgusted with Biden’s groveling to the Palestinians:
Joe Biden is about to pour almost $100 million into Palestinian areas, while the Palestinians continue to pay for terrorists who murder Israelis & Americans.
He kept it from the American public.
It's deeply troubling, to say the least. https://t.co/ejBh50vsjn
