Nickelodeon pulled an episode of the iconic and wildly popular cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants from its 12th season on-air called “Kwarantined Krab” due to sensitivities related to the “virus storyline.”
“The ‘Kwarantined Crab’ centers on a virus storyline, so we have decided to not air it due to sensitivities surrounding the global, real-world pandemic,” a Nickelodeon spokesperson said in a statement released to IGN. They allegedly axed the episode so it would not offend traumatized pandemic victims.
The episode involves a health inspector who discovers a case of “Clam Flu” at the Krusty Krab restaurant. Everyone gets quarantined inside and it devolves from there with the virus being liberally spread around for good measure.
Mimicking real life, everyone starts to get paranoid and distrusts each other. Those that are believed to have contracted the virus are shunned and tossed in a freezer. It eerily reflects the reactions of some Americans during the mask mandate when they catch individuals not masking-up.

The move by Nickelodeon is a politically correct and expedient one. The season was released on DVD in January. However, the “Kwarantined Krab” episode was removed.
It should be noted that the network had SpongeBob SquarePants celebrate “Pride Month” last year. According to Breitbart: “The show’s creator Stephen Hillenburg said before he died from ALS in 2018 that he regarded the cartoon sponge as part of the LGBTQ+ community because he is asexual.”

It gets even weirder in connection to the cartoon figure. Back in 2019, the University of Washington posited that SpongeBob SquarePants was American propaganda that was being used to cover up military violence and further the “violent and racist expulsion of Indigenous peoples.”
Nickelodeon also pulled season 3’s “Mid-Life Crustacean” episode. It hasn’t aired since 2018 “following a standards review in which we determined some story elements were not kid-appropriate,” Vice President of Communications David Bittler said. Amazon Video has also dropped the episode.
During that episode, SpongeBob’s boss, Mr. Krabs, started feeling old and went for a night out with SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick. They then attempt to break into a woman’s house and try to steal her underwear. The woman turned out to be Mr. Krabs’ mom and she caught them during the failed panty raid.
Nickelodeon’s justification for pulling the episodes did not sit well with fans and they called out the use of cancel culture against SpongeBob SquarePants.
Critics believe censorship is going wild in the United States. Recently, best-selling Captain Underpants author Dav Pilkey had his children’s graphic novel “The Adventures of Ook and Gluk” removed from circulation as it was claimed to “perpetuates passive racism” against Asian individuals.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises also discontinued six Dr. Seuss books due to allegedly insensitive and racist depictions.
