New polling data shows that, while President Joe Biden still enjoys overall majority approval, the public’s perception of his immigration policies is quite poor, in part presumably because of his refusal to be honest about what’s happening.
One poll published Tuesday by Marist on behalf of NPR found that only 34 percent approve of Biden’s handling of immigration, whereas a notable 53 percent majority disapprove. However, the poll also found that 52 percent of Americans approve of his “overall” job performance.
Another poll published Sunday by Ipsos on behalf of ABC News found that an even higher 57 percent of Americans disapprove of his handling of immigration. More notably, the poll also discovered that a 54 percent majority of Americans perceive what’s happening along the southern U.S. border as a crisis — not just a “situation.”
Another poll published by YouGov on behalf of Yahoo News found that 62 percent of Americans recognize that there’s a crisis at the border
And one Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill on Monday found that support for Biden’s immigration dropped by eight percentage points from February to March.
All these polls point to a public that seems increasingly displeased with the Biden administration’s refusal to be honest about the crisis along the border.

But it also denotes the equal displeasure felt toward how the administration has been handling the crisis, though the specific reason for the displeasure seems to vary based on voters’ political views.
An increasing number of “progressive” voices have lashed out at the administration in recent days over its treatment of illegal alien children.
“Biden is … facing incoming fire from the Democratic Party’s progressive left, which is increasingly frustrated with the slow progress so far by the president to deliver what he promised on the 2020 campaign trail – a more humane immigration system than the restrictive policies under former President Donald Trump’s administration,” according to Fox News.
To hear them tell it, every illegal alien child who crosses into the U.S. should just be released and allowed to run wild.
.@POTUS is opening up more prisons for children so that his administration can ultimately deport more children.
This is the latest one in our home town of San Antonio, TX. These new child prisons are totally unnecessary.

Over on the right, the frustration lies with the Biden administration’s decision to rescind all of the Trump-era policies that had helped secure the border and stop the inflow of illegal aliens.
Though on the other hand, it’s not a surprising move by the administration given that the policies responsible for the current crisis are remnants of the Obama-Biden administration.
It all started with the establishment of the Flores ruling, according to Trump-era immigration official Stephen Miller:
The Flores ruling arbitrarily limited time in ICE custody for families to 20 days, less time than it takes to process a request for asylum or other relief. Obama DOJ didn’t appeal to SCOTUS & the family migrant crisis was born. Catch-and-release became the rule of the day. (3/11)

Once this judicial loophole was well known to smugglers, aided by rise of social media, their business model increasingly switched to family smuggling. The job of a border agent transformed. Knowing they would be released, illegal families simply turned themselves in. (4/11)

Soon, for the first time, border agents began seeing adult males traveling with minors. HSI uncovered thousands of “fake families” using children as human pawns to gain entry. Children were also cruelly “recycled” — sent back and used by multiple adults to gain admission. (5\11)

All of this came to an end years later when then-President Donald Trump essentially gutted the Flores ruling and introduced policies that greatly disincentivized illegal immigration into the United States.
President Trump was determined to end this inhumane lawlessness. It required a comprehensive whole-of-government approach (delayed by incessant ludicrous injunctions). Asylum procedures were reformed, Flores regs issued, Guatemala border strengthened, ads run in NT, etc. (6/11)

But the game-changers were 2 long unused statutes: Remain in Mexico/MPP [8 USC 1225(b)2)(C)] and Safe Third [8 USC 1158(a)(2)(A)]. These enabled exec branch to end catch-and-release through foreign agreements. Under MPP, illegal migrants wait for asylum hearings in Mexico (7/11).

We achieved what critics said was impossible. Illegal family #’s plummeted. Those who came were all promptly removed. When pandemic hit, we instituted T42 rapid returns, and brought in-custody numbers to all-time lows. This was the impeccable operation Biden inherited. (10/11)

The policies worked like a charm, but then, for some inexplicable reason, the American people voted Biden into office, and he promptly reversed everything.
All @POTUS had to do was leave these profoundly effective & humane policies in place. Catch-and-release was OVER. The border was secure. A framework for regional rejuvenation was in place. And the Biden Admin set everything on fire, producing utter humanitarian disaster.(11/11).

Months into Biden’s administration, a majority now disapprove of his immigration handling. Yet for some inexplicable reason again, he still maintains a high “overall” job performance rating …
