‘The best decision I ever made’: Fauci brazenly steals credit from Trump for COVID vaccines

During a special on CNN, Dr. Anthony Fauci brazenly and arrogantly claimed credit for the development of COVID-19 vaccines, saying it was the best decision he ever made. He didn’t give any credit whatsoever to former President Donald Trump or Operation Warp Speed.

Fauci is being touted as the nation’s top disease expert by the Biden administration, but his advice on the pandemic has changed so often that Americans are not sure where he stands on it at any given moment. He is now joining a chorus of leftist voices to take credit for the coronavirus vaccines, their development, and when they were made available to Americans.

The CNN special was aired Sunday night and was entitled: “COVID War: The Pandemic Doctors Speak Out.” It markedly lashed out and criticized former President Trump and his handling of the pandemic.

“When I saw what happened in New York City, almost over-running of our healthcare system, and that’s when it became very clear that the decision we made on January 10 to go all out and develop a vaccine, may have been the best decision that I’ve ever made with regard to an intervention as the director of the institute,” Fauci stated, seemingly taking all the credit for himself.

The development for the vaccines began under Trump’s presidency and was carried out by Operation Warp Speed. “I hope everyone remembers when they’re getting the COVID-19 (often referred to as the China Virus) Vaccine, that if I wasn’t President, you wouldn’t be getting that beautiful ‘shot’ for 5 years, at best, and probably wouldn’t be getting it at all,” Trump had said in a statement earlier this month. “I hope everyone remembers!”

Now, in a revisionist atmosphere, Fauci, President Joe Biden and others are allegedly taking the credit for the vaccines themselves, despite what historically happened.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki steadfastly refused to give Trump any credit for the vaccine rollout. When asked if the former president should get any credit, Psaki avoided answering the question. Instead, she posited that the vaccine development and deployment was a “Herculean incredible effort by science and by medical experts. And certainly, we’ve applauded that in the past, and we’re happy to applaud that again.”

Fauci’s statement contradicts what his boss, Dr. Francis Collins, who is the National Institutes of Health director, said in February. The doctor heaped praise on the Trump administration and the “breathtaking” success of Operation Warp Speed concerning the short period of one year that saw the development of multiple vaccines which proved effective in combatting the virus. Fauci himself had no formal role in Operation Warp Speed. He was one of the leaders on Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force.

“The Operation Warp Speed, for which I give a great deal of credit to [former HHS Secretary Alex Azar], was an effort that many of us were not initially convinced was going to be necessary. And it was thought about as a Manhattan Project,” Collins explained to Axios.

“Those words were used sometimes to describe what needed to happen in order to get all parts of the government together in an unprecedented way to test up to six vaccines in rigorous trials, and to do this at-risk manufacturing so that if any of those trials happened to work, you would already have doses ready to go into arms,” Collins added.

Senior advisor to Trump, Jason Miller, tweeted out after the show aired that: “If it were up to Fauci we still wouldn’t have a Covid vaccine.”

CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta also gave credit where it was not due in his voiceover for the special: “The life-saving and record-breaking vaccines that Dr. Fauci oversaw were a giant success for ‘The Doctors’ and for science and for the world.”
