Trump rips Biden over immigration policy, says he’ll likely visit southern border soon: ‘I owe it’ to Border Patrol

In an exclusive phone interview Saturday evening with Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro, former President Donald Trump confirmed that he’s indeed intent on visiting the southern U.S. border soon, not that it’s something he’d wanted to do.

It’s just that, he explained on Fox News’ “Justice w/Judge Jeanine,” with President Joe Biden failing so spectacularly at keeping the border secure, he feels that he owes it to border officials and agents to intervene as best possible.

A lot of people want me to [go]. The border patrols and all of the people of ICE … they’ve asked me to go, and I really sort of feel I owe it to them. … I’d love not to be involved. Somebody else is supposed to be doing it,” he said.

But that somebody has made border enforcement nearly “impossible” by eliminating the strict policies that had allowed the Trump’s administration to secure the border.

“It’s impossible now with what they’ve done. ‘Stay in Mexico’ should have been left, and now they stay in the United States and never leave,” the former president said.

“Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak, and you’re gonna have millions of people pouring into our country, and it’s going to destroy our country. I don’t know what they’re doing, and they don’t know what they’re doing. It’s a very, very dangerous situation.”

What remains unclear is when exactly he’ll visit the border, though from the sounds of it, the former president is trying to give Biden a chance to visit the border first.

Probably over the next couple of weeks. I don’t think there’s a rush for me to go. He’s supposed to go and make the decision,” he told Pirro.

Yet the current president has thus far avoided even admitting that there’s a crisis occurring along the southern border. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he appointed last week to oversee the border “situation,” told the media late last week that she has no plans to visit the border.

“Harris has no plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border region ‘in the near future,’ spokeswoman Symone Sanders said Friday,” the Associated Press reported Friday.

For his part, Biden did say early last week that “at some point” he himself may possibly visit the border.

Not that it would even do any good given both his elimination of Trump-era border policies and his rocky relationship with Mexico.

“We’re not getting along with Mexico any longer. You have a great president of Mexico who was fantastic to me [who put] soldiers on our border — 28,000 soldiers [to] stop people from coming in,” Trump noted.

But with Biden now in charge, everything’s changed. Last week, Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador issued a critical statement essentially accusing the current U.S. president of being responsible for the surge of illegals along the border.

“Expectations were created that with the government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so,” he reportedly said during a press briefing Tuesday.

According to Trump, the crisis could be resolved quite quickly and simply if Biden would simply re-institute his policies and also restart construction of the border wall. But as pointed out in rebuttal by Pirro, this isn’t likely going to happen.

“They’re not going to do that, Mr. President, and the truth is that the president and the vice president have no public plans to visit the border,” she explained.

She then asked whether there’s a chance Trump may visit the border before them, to which he replied by reiterating that he’s not trying to draw attention and make a show but rather genuinely resolve the ongoing border crisis.

“Well, I’m not looking to have a race. I’m looking to get a problem solved. This is going to destroy our country. You have potentially millions of people coming up over a fairly short period of time. And these are people that, in a large way, are not people that we want in our country. You have criminals coming up. You have murderers, rapists, drug dealers coming up,” he said.

This is a point former Trump 2016 and 2020 campaign official Jason Miller had noted during an appearance last week on conservative talk radio show host Michael Berry’s program.

“I think that President Trump wanted to let Joe Biden go and fail on his own before he goes and steps in on that. I think there’s a very fine line between calling someone out on their policies and then appearing to do something that’s showboating,” he’d said.

Miller shared Pirro’s belief that the Biden administration will ultimately do nothing to resolve the crisis.

“In fact, he referred to Harris as Mrs. Open Borders” and noted how both she and Biden had expressed enthusiastic support for illegal immigration during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary debates.

“Joe Biden stood on that debate stage with the Democrats and even reiterated his belief in the general election that he supported citizenship for 11 million undocumented folks,” he said.

“That’s like putting up a signal flare of Fourth of July firework proportions to the entire Western Hemisphere for everyone who wants to come to the United States to come.”
