Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in unison with GOP senators is throwing down the gauntlet and demanding that corporations stop donating to Democrats who are brazenly trying to steal an Iowa House seat.
McConnell is flatly accusing Democrats of hypocrisy and manipulation in their efforts to flip the outcome of Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District election involving freshman GOP Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks. He joined Republican colleagues in a letter demanding fair and equal treatment from corporations.
The House Administration Committee is currently investigating the contested election. Miller-Meeks won the faceoff against Democrat Rita Hart by six votes. Hart is now contending that there are 22 votes that were improperly discarded which could allegedly swing the election in her favor by nine votes.
McConnell has previously decried the plot to unseat Miller-Meeks. He double-downed on his stance on the “Ruthless” podcast that came out Tuesday. He raised the specter of former President Trump by comparing the Democrats’ efforts to his attempt to challenge the 2020 presidential election results.

“Sounds like they were preaching that in November and December — that state certification was sacrosanct. I guess it’s sacrosanct except when it isn’t,” McConnell snarked. “Every time I don’t think they can reach a new low, they do. They seem to be on the cusp of setting aside a certified winner — admittedly, it was a close election — and seating that Democrat instead. That’s where they seem to be headed.”
McConnell noted that entities that are attempting to virtue signal by financially punishing Republicans, because they voted against certifying the presidential election results due to voter fraud concerns, are now engaging in “jaw-dropping hypocrisy” in connection with the effort to unseat Miller-Meeks led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“For goodness sake, certification in state elections should be the final word, rather than the majority deciding who gets to have a seat,” McConnell declared.

The House Administration Committee Democrats are smugly claiming that they are following the investigation process that is mandated by law. Republicans, to say the very least, are extremely skeptical of their motivations. Both candidates’ legal teams have a deadline on Monday to file their claims. They will also file reply briefs next week.
Pelosi originally seated Miller-Meeks in January. But she has also stated that there was a “hypothetical” scenario where the committee could decide to unseat her. She then added: “We will see where that takes us, but there could be a scenario to that extent.”
Miller-Meeks was certified by the Iowa State Canvassing Board as the official winner of the election after a recount and a re-canvass of the district’s 24 counties took place. Normally, a candidate who contests a state election would go to court to challenge the results. However, Hart decided to take her beef to the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.
A number of Democrats are taking a stance against the move to unseat Miller-Meeks.
Rep. Chris Pappas, who is Democrat from New Jersey, said in a statement to Fox News, “The election is over, and it’s time to move on.”
Rep. Susan Wild, who hails from Pennsylvania as a Democrat, said, “As I have said before in connection with the 2020 presidential election, legislators should be heeding states’ certifications of their elections. Unless there is rampant error and substantial evidence thereof, I do not believe it is the role of House members to dictate the outcome of elections.”
Democrat Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips tweeted that flipping the seat would “be even more painful for America” than losing the election by a meager six votes.
Senate Republicans and McConnell wrote a letter this week demanding fair treatment by corporations. They addressed the letter to “all companies who support free and fair elections” and demanded that the Democrats trying to commit a brazen power grab by unseating Miller-Meeks be treated the same way as they have treated Republicans over the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Senators signing the letter included Tom Cotton, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst.
“We are asking you to apply the same standard to this attempt to overturn an election that you applied to the Republicans who objected to certain states’ electoral votes,” the senators requested. “If you decide to not speak out about this brazen attempt to steal an election, some may question the sincerity of your earlier statements and draw the conclusion that your actions were partisan instead of principled.”
Cotton and McConnell went even further. “If the businesses who condemned Republicans in January don’t condemn Democrats for doing the same, everyone will question whether these companies are truly committed to free elections,” Cotton posited in a statement.
McConnell labeled a House vote on the seat “absurd” and proclaimed Democrats “want to use brute political power to overturn a democratic result because they lost.”
