Dem border mayor torches Biden for ‘slap in the face’ on immigrant crisis: ‘Whose side are you on?’

Bruno Lozano, a Democrat and the mayor of Del Rio, Texas, joined Fox News’ “Your World” on Monday and shredded the Biden administration over the border crisis, calling it a “slap in the face” and asking the president, “Whose side are you on?”

The mayor stated: “Well, I did speak with Julie Rodriguez of the White House. They stated that they were trying to facilitate the needs, and trying to come up with a plan of action, but this is nothing new. We were managing it in 2019 and here we are in 2021 managing another immigration crisis of great proportion and nothing is being done. It is a Biden border crisis in my opinion because there’s no plan of action. Seeing what we’re seeing now, what was happening in the Rio Grande Valley with people wrapped around in blankets made out of silver, it’s just kind of absurd what is happening.”

“When you’re pleading with the president to stop the release of migrants into your community, while we’re dealing with a weather phenomenon that hasn’t happened in 20 to 30 years, and we only get three or four days of that time per the border patrol sector, which by the way, we have a great relationship down on the ground with our chief and non-government organizations. It’s like really whose side are you on?” he continued.

“The American people were without water, electricity for days on end in del Rio, Texas, and you’re going to release migrants? Those individuals that are seeking a better life and opportunity into this weather phenomenon? I just don’t understand – I don’t understand how that could happen,” Lozano asked, clearly frustrated.

Lozano also made it clear on Sunday to the New York Post that he’s furious over the Biden administration’s inadequate efforts to handle the immigration crisis that is directly impacting his town. “You have a breach on national security levels that have never before been seen in modern history and you’re not even batting an eye about it, you’re not even calling it a crisis, you’re calling it a quote-unquote challenge,” Lozano pointed out.

The mayor pleaded with the administration in a video to stop the influx of illegal immigrants during the ice storm that recently hit Texas: “Mr. President my name is Bruno Lozano, mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas, and I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas,” Lozano begged as footage of empty store shelves and grocery store lines were shown.

Del Rio has a population of 35,000 and reportedly doesn’t have the means to care for those flooding the town.

“We do not have the resources available to house and accommodate these migrants within our community… If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources under these dire circumstances. I’m asking to please stop, please make another plan for this federal issue,” Lozano pleaded. His request “fell on deaf ears” and instead the number of illegal immigrants coming into his town has now increased to 150 per day.

“I’m not trying to demonize the humanitarian aspect by any means but my responsibility is to the city of Del Rio and the residents of Del Rio, Texas, my responsibilities are to the American people that got me elected,” Lozano stated.

“Nobody wants to actually tackle the issue, you’re condoning unlawful behavior, period. There’s a lawful way to enter the United States, there’s a lawful way to seek asylum and it just undermines the entire immigration process,” Lozano said, sounding more conservative than liberal.

He later went on to say: “You have this policy where unlawful entry is being condoned, criminal activity is being condoned, these migrants are using the cartels to traverse Mexico and that’s a fact, and organized criminal activity is rising because of that. I’m calling them out, I’m so frustrated as a border town mayor about all of this.”
