NY lawmaker alleges Gov. Cuomo demanded that he ‘lie, cover everything up’ to protect him

New York Assemblyman Ron Kim spoke with “Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy on Monday about the intimidation he experienced from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and how he refused to lie and cover-up for the scandal-ridden governor concerning the nursing home deaths attributable to his pandemic mandate.

They discussed the memorial at which Kim spoke in honor of the more than 15,000 New Yorkers who perished in nursing homes after Cuomo ordered those who were infected with COVID-19 to be allowed back into those residences. He still has in place the same mandate for those living in adult-care centers with disabilities.

Kim is demanding that Cuomo be held accountable for botching the handling of the pandemic. He recalled a phone call from Cuomo that allegedly threatened his political career, telling him he would be “destroyed” unless he stood by Cuomo’s administration and lied about the severity of the death toll.

“When I got that call from Gov. Cuomo threatening me and my career, my livelihood, to lie for him, I wasn’t scared of his bully tactics,” the Democrat stated. “But I was afraid that he would escape accountability.” He was the first Democrat to call for Cuomo’s impeachment.

“This is about decency,” declared Kim. “And a decent man uplifts those who are not in power. … That’s what this is about: This is about decent human beings coming together, taking on the most powerful politician in the state of New York.”

Cuomo denies that he threatened Kim during that call. But the governor has allegedly lied before concerning threatening phone calls he’s made.

In leaked audio from 2018, Cuomo threatened Bill Lipton who had been endorsed by the Working Families Party, reportedly telling him: “If you ever say, ‘Well he’s better than a Republican’ again, then I’m gonna say, ‘You’re better than a child rapist.’ How about that?”

Lipton responded: “Governor, I want, I apologize, but I gotta clarify one thing. You’re free to say whatever you want, governor, but I just want to be clear. Our line is going to be that we have differences with you, but our differences with Republicans are far greater.”

Cuomo caustically replied: “…I think you’re better than a child rapist.” His spokesperson claimed that was hyperbole but only after Cuomo denied he ever said it in the first place.

One of Cuomo’s top aides, Melissa DeRosa, was caught on tape speaking with Democratic leaders and admitting that Cuomo’s administration covered-up the true death toll in New York nursing homes because they feared that former President Trump would launch a federal probe to investigate them. That is purportedly obstruction of justice.

“Basically, we froze, because then we were in a position where we weren’t sure if what we were going to give to the Department of Justice or what we give to you guys, what we start saying was going to be used against us while we weren’t sure if there was going to be an investigation,” DeRosa confessed.

Addressing the memorial, Kim said they would expose what truly happened in New York. “Together, decency will win,” promised Kim. “Together, we will get to the truth.” His uncle was an Army veteran and was one of the 15,540 residents in nursing homes or adult-care facilities to pass away from the coronavirus.

“And that’s why I know, I know that this governor will be held accountable,” he vowed. “That I know that his reign of abusive power will end soon. Because there are way too many decent people in the city of New York to let this guy go unchecked.”

Cuomo’s administration is being investigated by the Department of Justice concerning his handling of the pandemic. They are looking closely at his creative math when it came to counting the number of deaths in nursing homes and adult-care facilities. It is possibly the first step in a move to impeach the governor.

“Who in their right mind can go into a press conference and say, ‘Who cares where they died?’” angrily asked Kim. That was in reference to a January briefing where Cuomo tried to negate the extent of the coronavirus’ death toll. “Who talks like that about older adults?

“A coward. One hundred percent, a coward. An abuser. Someone who abuses their power would say that,” posited Kim. “So we’ve had enough. We will mourn. We will hold hands. We will share our traumas. But we will get to a just place.”
