Kylie Jenner’s GoFundMe request outrages fans, given her estimated worth of $900 million

Celebrity makeup guru Kylie Jenner was slammed and mocked on Twitter after urging her fans to donate to a GoFundMe account for celebrity makeup artist Samuel Rauda, who was involved in a serious accident and had to have brain surgery.

Jenner and Rauda have worked together and are friends. A campaign to cover Rauda’s medical expenses was set up by Johanna Portillo and Jenner reportedly contributed $5,000 to it. The goal is $120,000. Jenner posted a link on Instagram, imploring her 222 million followers to donate: “May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel everyone take a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend, and swipe up to visit his families [sic] go fund me.”

Fans were outraged over the request and wanted to know why Jenner, who is incredibly wealthy, didn’t just write a check for her friend to cover his medical bills. Jenner has an estimated worth of $900 million, according to Forbes.

So far, $99,224 has been raised towards the campaign’s goal. But with so many wealthy clients, that is not sitting well with fans.

“If I was as rich as Kylie Jenner I simply wouldn’t ask ppl on the internet to donate for my best friend’s brain surgery but we all built different i guess!” one commenter said slamming Jenner.

Others tore into the celebrity:

Writer Charlotte Clymer snarked that Jenner’s donation was like “buying a premium latte” when compared to her wealth.

“We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to each and everyone who has donated or sent prayers in support of Samuel,” Portillo stated on the page Saturday. “We have felt the love and know that your continued prayers for healing are very much appreciated. It has been uplifting to witness how Sam not only brought a ray of shine to our lives but to many across the world.”

“It has been a week since Sam’s accident. It has not been easy. In the midst of it all, Sam continues to fight, showing us how strong he truly is. Please continue to send prayers his way,” she added.

He reportedly required “major surgery” on Sunday, March 14, according to the GoFundMe page. Rauda had eight head injuries and was in critical condition after the car accident. There is no word yet on how successful his brain surgery was.

Some fans heatedly defended Jenner. “She didn’t organize the gofundme page, it was published by Johanna Portillo 5 days ago. + the goal is $120,000 & she made a donation on Day 2 when she found out about the gofundme page probably. The fact that she donated something is important. Dnt write her off,” one person wrote.

Actress Bella Thorne, who is another celebrity client of Rauda’s, donated to the cause. Others included Sofia Richie, Bleta “BeBe” Rexha, and Huda Kattan.

Progressive politics also wormed its way into the tragedy. “Kylie Jenner, who makes $19K/hr asking for $$$ from her fans to help her make up artist pay for a $60,000 surgery, is an excellent example of why we need universal healthcare,” NYC-based community activist Moumita Ahmed tweeted on Sunday. “Even billionaire employers like Kylie and Walmart aren’t willing to pay for their employees’ healthcare.”

Jenner was named the world’s “youngest self-made” billionaire in 2019 by Forbes. She was 21 at the time. Forbes retracted the title last spring stating: “Kylie’s business is significantly smaller and less profitable than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets, including Forbes, to believe.”
