‘Fair Questions’ with Matt Bailey tackles the reopening of America with Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves

In this week’s episode of “Fair Questions,” host Matt Bailey discusses the “Reopening of America” and the lifting of mask mandates in various states with Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.

The mandate has been lifted in 15 states, all run by Republican governors. Mississippi is one of those states. Gov. Reeves lifted the mask mandate earlier this month in his state and he opened up businesses to full capacity. He was then roundly attacked by the left and the media for it.

This happened while Mississippi was dealing with water supply issues after the massive winter storm that also ravaged Texas. Residents had no clean water for over a month.

Bailey points out that things are looking up for the state. The order to boil all water has now been lifted and COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to everyone in the state.

Bailey and Reeves proceeded to discuss what is going on in the state of Mississippi and how that compares to other states. Reeves focused on the availability of the vaccine in his state and the efficient handling of the distribution of the inoculation to state residents. He believes that they can have approximately 1 million vaccinations given to people in Mississippi by the weekend.

Mississippi has not had a statewide mask mandate since the summer according to the governor. Mandates were implemented on a county-by-county criteria basis so as not to cripple the entire state either functionally or economically. Reeves’ logic and reasoning for lifting the mask mandate strictly have to do with the number of cases in the state and hospital capacities. The situation is massively improving in Mississippi and therefore restrictions are being lifted.

The governor is advocating doing what is in the best interests of people regardless of the politics involved.

Bailey and Reeves discussed the hesitancy of residents to get vaccinated as well. Reeves broached the subject of herd immunity and the rapid approval of the vaccines for deployment. He attempted to allay fears over the vaccine and noted it was safe and effective.

The discussion then pivoted to the water supply in Jackson and how grave the situation is there. Over 1 million bottles of water have been distributed throughout Mississippi during the crisis.

Bailey closed out the segment noting that the CDC is somewhat contradicting governors reopening their states by warning there are variants of the virus out there and they are risking their constituents by lifting mandates.

He states that Americans are frustrated that the goalposts keep moving concerning the pandemic and he notes that people are excited for the emergency to end and to get back to normal life once again.
