Military vet allegedly throws smoke bomb outside Mar-a-Lago in misplaced anger over stimulus

Talk about misguided priorities, a military veteran took his ire out on the wrong person after being upset about not receiving his stimulus check.

Paul Brantly Rawls, 38, allegedly chucked a smoke bomb outside Mar-a-Lago, which is home to former President Donald Trump, because he was mad over not getting his free money from the federal government, CBS 12 News reported.

From West Palm Beach, Rawls was arrested and faces a number of charges including making, possessing, throwing or discharging any destructive device, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, according to the affiliate.

Of course, had it been up to Trump, Rawls would have gotten a stimulus check long before President Joe Biden and the Democrat Party pushed through their $1.9 trillion blue state bailout disguised as a Covid relief bill.

But then, it’s a shorter trip for Rawls, a former combat veteran and Airborne Ranger, to travel to Mar-a-Lago than Washington, D.C. Besides, throwing incendiary devices at the White House would probably not go over too well.

On Sunday afternoon, a 7.5 inch fused incendiary device made by Pyro Y, named “5 Minute White Smoke,” was set off on South Ocean Blvd., CBS 12 reported. The road runs outside Trump’s private resort.

The U.S. Secret Service and Palm Beach Police responded and investigators said two vehicles crashed while trying to avoid to avoid the smoldering device.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was also dispatched.

Someone in a gray Volkswagen was seen tossing the device out, a surveillance video showed. After tracing the license plate on the car to Rawls, police made contact with the vet by phone.

“I know the real reason you want to talk to me,” Rawls said, according to the arrest report.

“I know why I’m here, it’s because I threw a smoke bomb, it’s all on video,” he would tell detectives at the police station.

Rawls reportedly spoke ill of the former administration over his stimulus check, and told the police he has been struggling since being discharged, CBS 12 noted.

Not only did Trump call on Congress to send him a standalone bill offering stimulus money to the American people before the November election, a request that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., nixed, he also called on Republican lawmakers to up the ante back in December, when the lame-duck Congress passed a $900 billion coronavirus relief bill that included $600 checks.

The former president called the bill a “disgrace” and demanded lawmakers raise the second round of stimulus checks to $2,000 per person.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter, as social media users informed Rawls he’s got the wrong guy:
