Impeachment star Alexander Vindman wants to sue right-wing media to ‘dismantle’ and ‘deradicalize’ it

Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the star witness in Trump impeachment 1.0, recommends hauling conservative news outlets into court as a way to put these outlets out of business. “Legal action must be taken to rein in the right-wing media apparatus,” he declared.

Vindman, then of  the National Security Council, was the individual who testified against President Trump before the misnamed House Intelligence Committee about the ex-POTUS’s July 25, 2019, “perfect” phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that despite efforts by Democrats and corporate media was much ado about nothing.

In a very wordy post on the Lawfare blog (which you can read in its entirety and draw your own conclusions), Vindman — who it seems was also a fan of Impeachment 2.0 —  proposes that the so-called right-wing media be held legally and ultimately financially responsible particularly for what he claimed was its role in the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“Recent events have made the need for accountability more pressing than ever. Should anyone be surprised that viewers of right-wing media are radicalized when media personalities themselves promote radical ideas based on lies?…

“The First Amendment gravely limits the available tools to seek accountability for the right-wing media…Nevertheless, there are ways to dismantle the right-wing ecosystem of disinformation, an ecosystem that does not begin with insurrection but with more mundane lies,” he wrote.

“The only means of breaking the cycle is accountability. Civil consequences, rather than governmental restrictions on First Amendment rights, could be a meaningful way to take what are fundamentally money-making ventures and demand truth from them, instill rigor in their reporting, and uphold accountability…Putting companies in fear of the real costs in civil damages for slander, libel, and false claims that can cumulatively incite violence and that can individually harm actual human beings should have a restraining effect on their behavior,” Vindman claimed.

Vindman’s article also lamented how he was allegedly defamed by President Trump and his proxies after he testified on Capitol Hill and also provided a litany of right-wing outlets and pundits who purportedly disparaged him.

Journalist Byron York has suggested that Lt. Col. Vindman himself, rather than a still-unidentified whistleblower, may allegedly have been the instigator of the Ukraine impeachment hoax.

Parenthetically, Vindman told NBC News in September 2020 that he was a non-partisan official who subsequently became a Never Trumper.

The ex-Army officer’s proposal about rooting out right-wing “lies” appears to be yet another form of projection by the left, however, as it ironically comes just as the Washington Post admitted that it misreported President Trump’s phone conversation with the Georgia secretary of state in a story that was immediately amplified at the time by many news organizations.

Democrats apparently cited the original WaPo story in their Impeachment 2.0 report.

Said President Trump in a news release, “while I appreciate the Washington Post’s correction, which immediately makes the Georgia Witch Hunt a non-story, the original story was a Hoax, right from the very beginning…You will notice that establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way—against me and against Republicans.”

Independent investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson has cataloged 152 mistakes that the mostly liberal media made in the Trump era, with the Georgia story the most recent addition to the list.
