Senator Ted Cruz hilariously annihilated Rep. Eric Swalwell on Twitter after it was announced by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that he will be re-appointed to the Intelligence Committee despite his Chinese spy “honey pot” scandal.
Cruz simply could not resist an epic tweet that instantly went viral, writing: “To be fair, he has done a lot of undercover work on Chinese communists.”
Swalwell should have known better than to take on the Texas Republican who is in a class of his own when battling others on Twitter. But he couldn’t stop himself, and tweeted back: “To be fair, you left your constituents in a storm for an out-of-country Ritz Carlton. And Trump called your wife ugly and you sided with..Trump. So sit down.”
That set Twitter on fire and the responses were not kind to Swalwell. Cruz didn’t have to utter a single word in response… commenters on Twitter nailed Swalwell for him.

All of this came after GOP leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy stepped into the political fray over Swalwell sitting on the committee. He plans to introduce a resolution next week to remove him from the House Intelligence Committee. Unfortunately, that move will probably not succeed. So, even though Swalwell was outed in an alleged relationship with a known Chinese spy, he will still sit on the committee.
“Pelosi just reappointed Eric Swalwell to the Intelligence Committee. Based on the briefing she and I received together, Swalwell should not be on the panel in charge of guarding our nation’s secrets,” McCarthy tweeted.

McCarthy stated in December of 2020 that, after an FBI briefing he received concerning Swalwell’s alleged involvement with a Chinese spy, he was certain that the congressman should not be sitting on the Intelligence Committee. The alleged spy Christine Fang, more commonly known as Fang Fang, reportedly worked “covertly as an intelligence agent for the Chinese Ministry of State Security.” McCarthy claims Swalwell is a national security threat.
“The American people elected a Democratic House Majority that would be relentless in our work to promote their security – both by defending their economic security here at home and our national security abroad,” Pelosi declared in a statement.
“On the Intelligence Committee, these Members will be effective forces in keeping the American people safe, as we confront our nation’s adversaries, adapt to new threats and work with our allies,” she ironically stated.
Swalwell was the recipient of an FBI “defensive briefing” in 2015 on Fang Fang. It is believed she returned to China to avoid apprehension after conducting fundraising for Swalwell and clandestinely placing an intern in his office to spy for China.
Swalwell will not comment on whether he had a romantic relationship with her.
Fourteen Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray in February asking for a briefing on Swalwell’s relationship with Fang.
“As our nation faces a growing security threat from the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to infiltrate and undermine the United States Government, we write to request a full briefing regarding counterintelligence threats to Members of Congress, including information related to Representative Eric Swalwell’s ties to a suspected Chinese intelligence operative,” they wrote.
The Republicans stated, “We must ensure the Committee can safeguard Top Secret information and make an informed decision regarding Rep. Swalwell’s future access to classified information.”
Democratic members on the Intel Committee include Chair Adam Schiff (CA), Reps. Jim Himes(CT), Andre Carson (IN), Jackie Speier(CA), Mike Quigley (IL), Eric Swalwell (CA), Joaquin Castro (TX), Carolyn Maloney (NY), Val Demings (FL), Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL), Peter Welch (VT), Jim Cooper (TN), and Jason Crow (CO).
