Miss. Gov fires back at Biden for insulting ‘Neanderthal’ comment: We ‘don’t need handlers’

President Biden in a “deplorables” moment on Wednesday offensively accused states of being guilty of “Neanderthal thinking” if they choose to drop their mask mandates and other COVID restrictions

“I think it’s a big mistake. I hope everyone has realized right now these masks make a difference,” Biden lectured. “We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way in which we are able to get vaccines in people’s arms.”

“The last thing — the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime, everything’s fine, take off your mask, forget it. It still matters,” Biden admonished.

Biden’s caustic labeling comes after both Texas and Mississippi issued executive orders on Tuesday that nix mask mandates and let businesses finally open up at 100 percent capacity. The president allegedly does not have the power to overrule governors and other state and local officials concerning these mandates.

After Biden’s insulting remarks, Republican Mississipi Governor Tate Reeves tore into him: “President Biden said allowing Mississippians to decide how to protect themselves is ‘neanderthal thinking.’ Mississippians don’t need handlers,” Reeves tweeted.

“As numbers drop, they can assess their choices and listen to experts. I guess I just think we should trust Americans, not insult them,” he added.

“Our hospitalizations and case numbers have plummeted, and the vaccine is being rapidly distributed,” he also tweeted on Tuesday. “It is time!”

Reeves also stated that Biden is out of touch with his constituents who live outside the Beltway: “Today I feel the same way as I did the day that Hillary Clinton called all of us in Middle America ‘deplorables,’” the governor told Fox News. “When President Biden said that we were all Neanderthals, it struck me as someone who needs to get outside of Washington, D.C., and actually travel to Middle America.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s spokesperson Renae Eze stated that the governor was “clear in telling Texans that COVID hasn’t ended and that all Texans should follow medical advice and safe practices to continue containing COVID.”

“The fact is, Texas now has the tools and knowledge to combat COVID while also allowing Texans and small businesses to make their own decisions,” Eze declared. “It is clear from the recoveries, the vaccinations, the reduced hospitalizations, and the safe practices that Texans are using, that state mandates are no longer needed. We must now do more to restore livelihoods and normalcy for Texans.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci was incensed that states would drop their mask mandates and reopen for business: “It‘s just inexplicable why you would want to pull back now,” Fauci whined to CNN. “I understand the need to want to get back to normality, but you‘re only going to set yourself back if you just completely push aside the public health guidelines, particularly when we‘re dealing with anywhere from 55,000 to 75,000 infections per day in the United States. That‘s a very, very high baseline.“

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) scolded Biden for his derogatory comments on Wednesday. “President Biden has a lot of problems to take care of. He’s got a crisis at the border that he calls a challenge and not a crisis,” Cornyn noted. “So I don’t think he’s got a lot to say about preaching to my state about how we’ve handled this COVID-19 virus.”

Republican Montana Governor Greg Gianforte did away with his state’s mask mandate two weeks ago. He informed Biden on Twitter exactly how he feels about the “Neanderthal thinking” pejorative:

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) also weighed in on Twitter over the name-calling by Biden: “Freedom of choice for Americans: ‘Neanderthal thinking’ Opening borders to illegal immigrants with COVID: “compassion.”’
