Kayleigh McEnany to become a Fox News contributor, CNN’s Brian Stelter sounds off

Former Trump White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany is set to become a Fox News contributor, earning her praise on the right and derision on the left.

The official word from the network and McEnany comes after a financial disclosure report in January noted that she had signed a contract with Fox News.

“It is my distinct pleasure today to welcome Kayleigh McEnany to the Fox family. We will be seeing much more of her in the future,” Harris Faulkner said on Fox News Channel’s “The Faulkner Focus.”

Bringing McEnany aboard is a good fit for Fox News since she was a regular on almost all of the network’s programs during her stint as the Trump administration’s third press secretary.

The former White House spox took some time Tuesday morning to dish on what her job in the White House was like, and wished Biden’s White House spokesperson, Jen Psaki, all the best.

“I wish her all the best. I left her a note saying that much, we’ve met previously, one time, and she was very kind,” McEnany told Faulkner. “So were some of her colleagues in the press shop and I left her a note, I wish her the best.”

McEnany didn’t shy away from pointing out the double standards she’s already noticed.

“I’ll never forget watching one of the early press briefings where [Psaki] was asked about Antifa riots and I believe she said that she hadn’t spoken to the president about that. They let her move on, whereas if I would have been asked that about violence on the other side of the aisle… that wouldn’t have been an answer that flew, nor should it have,” McEnany said, adding that she believes the American people are too smart and “wise” not to see the difference in treatment.

McEnany has seen some friction with previous Fox coverage too. Neil Cavuto, raised eyebrows among her fans and supporters of former President Donald Trump when he cut away from one of her briefings in November as she was discussing his legal team’s allegations of vote fraud and election rigging.

“There is only one party in America trying to keep observers out of the [vote] count room, and that party, my friends, is the Democrat Party,” McEnany said. “You don’t oppose an audit of the vote because you want an accurate count. You don’t oppose our efforts at sunlight, at transparency, because you have nothing to hide. You take these positions because you are welcoming fraud and you are welcoming illegal voting.”

“I just think we have to be very clear. She’s charging the other side as welcoming fraud and welcoming illegal voting. Unless she has more details to back that up I can’t in good countenance continue showing you this,” he said then.

“I want to make sure that maybe they do have something to back that up. That is an explosive charge to make that the other side is effectively rigging and cheating. If she does bring proof of that we will take you back,” Cavuto added.

He was blasted on social media for his decision to cut away.

“Did Fox News cut away from allegations about Russian collusion? Screw Cavuto,” Chad Prather wrote.

Cavuto was also criticized indirectly by fellow Fox News host Tucker Carlson during a segment on his show in which he was discussing “legitimate” questions being asked by tens of millions of Americans about voter integrity following the Nov. 3 election.

“You can’t just cut away from coverage you don’t like,” Carlson said.

Unsurprisingly, the hiring of McEnany, drew the ire of many on the left, and CNN’s media analyst Brian Stelter, who frequently focuses his attention on Fox News and other conservative networks was quick to voice his dissent.

“One way to think about Fox News in 2021 is as the Trump White House in exile. Today Kayleigh McEnany joined as a contributor to the network,” he wrote on Twitter following Fox News’ announcement.
