John Boehner reportedly tells Ted Cruz to ‘go f*** yourself’ while recording memoir, blames wine

Former Republican House Speaker John Boehner allegedly spewed expletives at Senator Ted Cruz while recording the audio version of his new book entitled, “On the House: A Washington Memoir.”

He reportedly blurted, “Oh, and [Sen.] Ted Cruz, go f—k yourself,” two sources told Axios Thursday evening. The sources, who are reportedly familiar with the recording, claim that Boehner went off-script. They also referenced a tweet from Boehner that stated: “Poured myself a glass of something nice to read my audiobook. You can blame the wine for the expletives.”

Boehner and Cruz do not have a cordial relationship and the verbal attack appears opportunistically and politically timed. Boehner, who resigned from Congress in 2015, viciously labeled the senator as “Lucifer in the flesh” back in 2016.

“I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b*tch in my life,” he told The Stanford Daily at the time.

Boehner’s spokesman, David Schnittger, told Axios: “I can confirm there were some off-script moments during his recording of the audiobook. He pretty much just let it fly, as he did when he was working on the book itself. He’s not really interested in being anything other than himself these days. That is kind of the spirit of the entire project.”

The former speaker’s book is promoted as “colorful tales from the halls of power, the smoke-filled rooms around the halls of power and his fabled tour bus.”

The memoir appears full of self-adulation. The summation on Amazon is enlightening:

“John Boehner is the last of a breed. At a time when the arbiters of American culture were obsessing over organic kale, cold-pressed juice, and SoulCycle, the man who stood second in line to the presidency was unapologetically smoking Camels, quaffing a glass of red, and hitting the golf course whenever he could.”

“There could hardly have been a more diametrically opposed figure to represent the opposition party in President Barack Obama’s Washington. But when Boehner announced his resignation, President Obama called to tell the outgoing Speaker that he’d miss him. “Mr. President,” Boehner replied, “yes you will.” He thought of himself as a “regular guy with a big job,” and he enjoyed it.”

The memoir apparently covers Boehner’s “impressions of leaders he’s met and what made them successes or failures, from Ford and Reagan to Obama, Trump, and Biden.”

He apparently also looks at today’s “unrecognizable” Republican Party and doles out “advice” characterized as  “some harsh, some fatherly,” while also providing “his often acid-tongued comments about his former colleagues. And of course, he talks about golfing with five presidents.”

Boehner is currently a marijuana proponent and sits on the board of Acreage Holdings, a publicly-traded cannabis company based in New York. He is often remembered for his crying episodes in Congress. His book is selling for $26.99 on in hardcover and the audio is $39.99.
