Hillary Clinton is writing an international political thriller with award-winning author Louise Penny that seems to mirror her own career in numerous aspects and is entitled State of Terror.
Clinton called writing the book with Penny a “dream come true.” The author has written a number of popular thrillers such as Bury Your Dead, All the Devils Are Here, and The Nature of the Beast.
“I’ve relished every one of her books and characters as well as her friendship,” Clinton gushed. “Now we’re joining our experiences to explore the complex world of high-stakes diplomacy and treachery. All is not as it first appears.”
While it remains to be seen whether Clinton’s plot in her fictitious thriller is based in reality or in fantastical musings or both, the premise of the book allegedly reflects different parts of her political journey.

Penny is thrilled to be penning the book with the former secretary of state. “When it was suggested my friend Hillary and I write a political thriller together, I could not say yes fast enough,” she eagerly wrote in a statement released on Tuesday.
The pending book was reported by Axios. According to the synopsis of the book, it will center on a “novice Secretary of State” who “joins the administration of her rival, a president inaugurated after four years of American leadership that shrank from the world stage.” The plot seems to be hauntingly reminiscent of Clinton’s tenure in the Obama administration.

Clinton’s plot fictitiously lays out its heroine’s scenario:
“A series of terrorist attacks throws the global order into disarray, and the Secretary is tasked with assembling a team to unravel the deadly conspiracy, a scheme carefully designed to take advantage of an American government dangerously out of touch and out of power in the places where it counts the most.”
Penny stated that teaming up with Clinton was “an incredible experience, to get inside the State Department. Inside the White House. Inside the mind of the Secretary of State as high stake crises explode.”
“Before we started, we talked about her time as Secretary of State. What was her worst nightmare? State of Terror is the answer,” Penny said.
Simon & Schuster and St. Martin’s Press will release the book in October. This will be her latest in a series of books including It Takes a Village, Hard Choices, What Happened, and The Book of Gutsy Women, which was co-authored with her daughter Chelsea. Clinton released the You and Me Both with Hillary Clinton podcast last year. She still has her toe in political and social media waters as well.
Former President Bill Clinton also partnered with author James Patterson for a political thriller in 2018 ironically titled The President is Missing. They allegedly have another novel coming out in June titled The President’s Daughter.
