CNN’s Alisyn Camerota expressed shock on her show “New Day” Friday when she heard a report concerning the systematic and brutal gang-raping and torture of women prisoners in internment camps in the Xinjiang province of China.
The segment was with correspondent Ivan Watson and Camerota began the report with some background: “This morning, shocking allegations of gang-rape in detention camps in China. The U.S. government accuses China of the mass internment of up to 2 million members of mostly Muslim ethnic minority groups in recent years,” Camerota stated.
“Part of a policy that the U.S. State Department says amounts to genocide. Beijing denies this, claiming the camps are vocational training centers aimed at creating jobs and stamping out Islamist extremism,” Camerota added.
The Biden administration seems to be on friendly terms with China regardless of human rights violations. The president has referred to China’s actions against the Uighur population by utilizing internment camps as “different norms.”

“Culturally there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow,” Biden said.
“If you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been, the time when China has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven’t been unified at home,” Biden added. “So the central — well, vastly overstated — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that.”
Watson reported that women were allegedly forcibly implanted with IUDs to prevent pregnancy after being raped. He covered the monstrous occurrences of reported gang-rape, beatings, and torture the women suffer in the camps. One victim claimed she was “accused of being influenced by American propaganda after living for five years in neighboring Kazakhstan.” For her alleged sins, she was raped and tortured repeatedly. The attacks were so vicious she wound up having to have her uterus removed. There was just too much damage after guards allegedly shoved a stun baton inside her until she eventually passed out.
A woman who taught Mandarin Chinese to inmates in the camps was witness to the women being abused. She stated that the women prisoners “had their hair shaved off” and were forced to wear numbered vests. The first day she was there, she claimed she saw a young girl being transported out of the camp on a stretcher with “no spark of life on her face.” She reportedly died from heavy bleeding ostensibly caused by forcible rape.
“CNN cannot independently verify the accounts of these women. China has attacked their credibility, calling these women actors, playing victims from Xinjiang,” Watson reported. China has smeared its internment camp victims incessantly, denying that anything is happening to them. Those who go public are labeled as ‘actors’.
“Now, speaking out can create a terrible burden for people. I’ve interviewed dozens of natives of Xinjiang outside of the country and many of them have said that after they’ve gone public criticizing what’s happening in Xinjiang, their relatives who are still there face punishment from the Chinese authorities in the form of harassment, and even detention,” Watson reported. “The Chinese government denies that there is any punitive policy here and Beijing continues to insist that there are no human rights abuses at all in all of Xinjiang.”
“Oh, my God, Ivan. What a devastating story. Just these hideous crimes and watching these women have to suffer through it. And so important for us to know about this and hear it,” an apparently shocked Camerota exclaimed.
The U.S. leads the world in being the first country to decry China’s brutal treatment of Uighurs and to call it genocide. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo bemoaned the savagery of the Chinese Communist Party.
