During a press briefing Friday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo once again refused to accept an iota of responsibility for his administration’s documented deceit and incompetence in regard to its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Instead, the governor blamed his Republican “political” enemies for exploiting “misinformation” to “spread lies” and confuse people.
“I want to set the record straight on nursing homes for a number of reasons, primarily for the families of nursing home people. We created a void by not producing enough public information fast enough. People wanted information, we did not produce public information fast enough. That creates a void,” he claimed.
“What happens in a void, especially today in this environment, in this toxic political environment, something fills the void and conspiracy theories and politics and rumors fill the void, and you can’t allow inaccurate information to go unanswered. Twitter, bogus reports become a reality at one point,” he added.

His only mistake, Cuomo continued, was not being aggressive enough in combating the alleged lies.
“We created the void by not producing enough public information quickly enough. I get that. But then it was exploited with misinformation, people playing politics, Republicans playing politics, personal attacks, personal agendas,” he said.
“And now this continues and people get confused, and people who lost family members in nursing homes start to say, I wonder if this is true. I wonder if my father died because somebody made a mistake. I wonder if my father had to die,” Cuomo said. “Those false statements must be countered. They must be or else people get confused.”
The “next-level gaslighting,” as New York Rep. Elise Stefanik described it in the tweet below, was stunning.

The evidence against his administration includes a report from New York State Attorney General Letitia James accusing his administration of grossly undercounting nursing home deaths, and audio footage of his top aide admitting to state Democrat lawmakers that the administration had purposefully covered up the true death toll.
The evidence also includes allegations that Cuomo personally threatened to “destroy” a New York lawmaker’s career after the Democrat lawmaker, Ron Kim, accused him of obstruction of justice as per the emerging nursing home death rate scandal.
The governor is in so deep that even Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, a far-left Democrat not prone to attacking her own, has called for a “full investigation.”
“I support our state’s return to co-equal governance and stand with our local officials calling for a full investigation of the Cuomo administration’s handling of nursing homes during COVID-19,” she said in a statement Friday.

Support is growing for Cuomo to be impeached.
“It will take a little time to build that consensus, but every day we are inching toward the impeachment process,” Kim said Friday on Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast.
He added that “virtually all” Republicans and around 25 to 30 of the New York State Assembly’s 105 Democrats already back the effort.

Meanwhile, Republicans are looking to well-recognized figures like Rep. Lee Zeldin to hopefully challenge Cuomo in next year’s gubernatorial election.
“In the last 48 hours a significant number of large donors and influential Republicans have reached out to Lee Zeldin to ask him to take on Cuomo,” a Republican consultant reportedly with ties to the congressman told Fox News on Friday.
“Some national Republicans, who feel that Zeldin would have the best chance against Cuomo, are ready to help the congressman if he launches a campaign, a separate GOP source said,” Fox News reported.
Of course, this is all contingent on Cuomo not being impeached and removed from office.
Either way, the goal remains the same: Get rid of a man who’s been described by Republicans such as Stefanik as New York’s “worst governor.”

Even Democrats have aimed insults at the man, with The Guardian labeling him a so-called “mini-Trump.”
“It has always been obvious to anyone paying attention that Cuomo is a mini-Trump. He has the same appetite for authoritarianism as the former president: during the pandemic he has drawn scrutiny for cancelling special elections, issuing executive orders and consolidating power,” a piece published at the left-wing outlet reads.
“Like Trump he has nothing but disdain for his detractors, particularly if they happen to be more qualified than he is. The New York Times recently reported that nine top New York health officials have resigned during the pandemic, with many of them telling the Times that Cuomo had asked them to match their health guidance to his decisions. But who needs experts, eh? Not the all-knowing Cuomo.”
