Lemon calls Texas GOP Gov. Abbott a liar, blames him for power outages: ‘Why weren’t you ready?!’

CNN host Don Lemon went off on Texas Governor Greg Abbott, blaming him for the power outages during the monstrous storm that has hit the state and the widespread blackouts that have left millions without power in freezing temperatures.

Lemon claimed that Abbott shifted the blame on the power outages to renewable energy and the Green New Deal when, in reality, Abbott called for an immediate investigation into the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for not adequately maintaining the power grid in his state.

Several people have died as a result of the bitter cold in Texas. With no power and no way to stay warm, it has put millions of Texans in peril. In a state rich with oil and gas resources, it is hard to fathom how this was able to happen in the Lone Star state.

On Lemon’s Wednesday night venting, he went after Abbott and seemingly blamed the whole mess on him including those who perished in the storm.

“Texans are suffering right now. And they’re suffering due to a massive failure of the power grid that was not designed to withstand this kind of weather at all,” Lemon intoned. “People are freezing because there are problems across the board. The governor admitted that today. But not before going on Sean Hannity last night.”

“He told on himself right there. 10 percent. Come on, man. 10 percent,” Lemon said. “He’s making stuff up as he goes along to try to shift the blame and also capitalizing on division in this country. So what is failing right now? What is failing right now is the majority of the power source. And that power comes from what? Oil and gas. Weatherizing this equipment is voluntary in Texas. And guess what, they didn’t choose that option.”

“Only in 2021 could we be told that in a state rich in energy—this is Texas, right? Oil country—that the root of the problem is wind or solar,” Lemon claimed. “And some people are just eating it up. Buying it. But it is a lie.”

“Wind power is minuscule compared to that,” Lemon accusingly stated. “So Governor Abbott, where is the fuel to heat homes all across Texas? Where is it? Where is it? Where’s the fuel to keep gas stations up and running, Governor Abbott, instead of politicizing it on conservative TV. Where is it? Or to keep food and household supplies on supermarket shelves. Where is it? Because a lot of those shelves are empty right now.”

“Why weren’t you ready?!” Lemon demanded of Abbott. “Even let’s just say you’re right about the wind turbines, and you’re not. But shouldn’t you have been ready?”

Texas has increasingly relied on wind and solar power for their power grid as liberal activists finagle to implement renewable energy sources in the state versus oil, gas, and nuclear power alternatives. When the storm hit, the wind turbines and solar panels froze. That was only part of the problem as the power grid then could not handle the load placed on it because it had not been hardened and maintained with this type of storm in mind. Power companies are deregulated and privatized in Texas.

Lemon has made no such proclamations against California in the past as they have experienced rolling blackouts every year. But a conservative governor made a prime target for the CNN host.

“So here’s what president Harry Truman famously said, that ‘the buck stops here.’” Lemon sneered. “In other words, on his desk. Greg Abbott is not familiar with that saying. Maybe he and his administration should have kept on top of ERCOT to make sure that the grid would withstand winter storms and the blast of Arctic air across most of the state. Maybe so, right? Governor. Buck stops with him.”

“Now millions of people are suffering in freezing temperatures. No relief in sight. For days,” Lemon went on. “Most of the state’s power grid is not connected to the national grid. Republican lawmakers made that decision over the last few decades to keep federal regulators at bay. That’s why they did it. So they didn’t want to regulate it. Didn’t want regulation. Don’t want nobody telling them what to do. Now it sure looks like oversight was needed there, right? Sometimes you don’t know more than the generals. Or the experts.”

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also blasted ERCOT on Twitter for not doing their job by maintaining the power grid and for being unreliable. Some of his employees actually had to sleep in their electric cars to stay warm.

Evidently, in 2019, Tesla unveiled a car with a “Camp Mode” feature that allows an owner to utilize the car’s climate control for over a day without draining the battery.

“We had the power go out for 6 hours last night. Our house does not have gas, and we ran out of firewood . . . what are we going to do,” wrote one Reddit commenter.

“So my wife my dog and my newborn daughter slept in the garage in our Model3 all nice and cozy. If I didn’t have this car, it would have been a very rough night,” he stated.

Another person tweeted: ”I slept in the Tesla LOL. Pretty comfortable. More importantly, warm.”
