Chris Wallace asks why there is more GOP outrage over Liz Cheney than Marjorie Taylor Greene

“Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace wants to know why the GOP is more obsessed with punishing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY)  than Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), saying there seems to be a lot more outrage over Cheney calling for Trump’s second impeachment than for the things that Greene has allegedly said and done.

Greene has been adamant that Trump won the presidential election and has spoken out against election fraud. She has also been tied to a number of alleged conspiracy theories and the left has attacked her for going after David Hogg over gun control, refusing to wear a mask, and for Facebook posts deemed inflammatory.

“Susan, you know, you’ve got a situation right now where there is more visible outrage inside the GOP over Liz Cheney, a member of leadership, voting to impeach the president over — rather than some of these wild conspiracy theories being espoused by Marjorie Taylor Greene. How serious is this for the GOP and what can they do about it? I mean, they take her off committees, expel her? What are their options here?” Wallace queried USA Today’s Susan Page during a segment.

Page replied that the outrage towards Cheney tells you a great deal about where the GOP may be headed. She noted that Cheney’s seat may be in danger and she may wind up facing a primary challenger in 2022 over standing against Trump. More than a few Republicans want her gone. On the other hand, Greene will most likely only face a “slap on the wrist” by being potentially removed from the House Education Committee.

Page told Wallace, “I think you’re right. I think it tells a lot about where the Republican Party is right now that Liz Cheney is undoubtedly going to face a primary fight the next time she is up for election, that there is at least a possibility that she is going to lose her place in the House leadership because of this vote of conscience she took. While Republicans in private expressed concern about Marjorie Taylor Greene, not many of them are willing to speak up in public.”

“There are big wounds on Capitol Hill from the January 6th assault on Congress,” Page stated. “That’s what you heard from Nancy Pelosi when she was talking to reporters in the clip you played. There is — this is the kind of language we have not heard from Capitol Hill since the Civil War and it’s not over yet.” Many would contend that Pelosi’s words were not only divisive but incendiary as well.

The entire back and forth between Wallace and his guests appeared to be an attack on Greene. Not much was said at all about Cheney turning on Trump after the Capitol riot.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) held a rally in Wyoming against Cheney over her stance against Trump. A steadfast supporter of the former president, Gaetz spoke in front of an exuberant crowd last week near the steps of the Wyoming state capitol and belted out a populist speech to roars of approval. Gaetz slammed Cheney and proclaimed that the “establishment in both political parties have teamed up to screw our fellow Americans for generations.”
