Shattering previous presidential records for signing executive orders, President Joe Biden has made a staggering number of mandates his first week in office. He has signed over 30 executive orders and his first week is not done yet.
As of January 25, 2021, Biden has “issued 33 executive orders, actions, proclamations, memoranda, and agency directives,” according to CNN. Twenty-one of these, according to the White House website, are executive orders. The mind-blowing number of executive orders is far from the norm. For context: former President Bill Clinton signed two in 1993, George W. Bush signed two in 2001, Barack Obama signed five in 2009 and Donald Trump signed four in 2017.
The American Presidency Project at the University of California Santa Barbara confirms that no other president has issued as many as Biden. That includes Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whose energetically progressive first 100 days set a new standard for activity. It is brutally evident that Biden’s frenzy is meant to try and undo Trump’s legacy as president.
Historically, presidents have defended executive orders as necessary to defend against the heavy-handed policies of the opposing party. But this goes far beyond that… Biden’s manic pen use is being seen as political weaponization and some even refer to it as the actions of a dictator.

The Democrats already control both the House and the Senate. They have all but neutered the Supreme Court and now control the presidency as well. There is literally no one to stop them for at least the next two years as they rampage and pass any progressive piece of legislation they want. That is what President Biden is kicking off here. This is plowing the road of Republican opposition and using executive orders to do so.
Earlier this month, while previewing Biden’s first days in office, incoming Chief of Staff Ron Klain told reporters that the new president’s planned executive actions would be “a restoration of an appropriate, constitutional role for the President.”
Instead, Biden’s stack of executive orders overturning all things conservative appears to mark a massive, historic expansion of the power of the presidency. And Biden is just getting warmed up.
Executive Orders:
Clinton—2 in his first week in office
Bush—2 in his first two weeks in office
Obama—5 in his first week in office
Trump—4 in his first week in officeBiden—30+ in his first five days in office
Remind me again which president governs like a dictator?
