Train wreck CNN interview with lawyer for ‘Shaman’ Capitol rioter delivers for all the wrong reasons

Remember the insane barbarian seen at the U.S. Capitol riot last week? CNN, a biased network that strives diligently to de-platform sane voices on the right, predictably decided to give his equally-insane lawyer airtime this Thursday.

This is CNN …

Appearing on CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time — but of course — Al Watkins, the attorney for barbarian and reported “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansely, didn’t disappoint.

Speaking with host Chris Cuomo, Watkins argued that Chansely deserves a pardon from President Donald Trump because the president had effectively brainwashed him much in the same way as notorious cult leader Jim Jones had brainwashed his followers.

Right from the get-go, the interview was a train wreck.

Watch part one below:

As seen above, the first three minutes went absolutely nowhere because Watkins’ microphone kept breaking in and out. This forced Cuomo to go ahead and order a commercial break so the audio problem could be fixed.

After the break, the real interview began — and so did the Trump-bashing.

“The ‘QAnon Shaman,’ that’s what he calls himself — he’s the fool with the painted face and the weird horns on his head, one of the people who decided to break into the Capitol,” Cuomo said as he opened the segment.

“His attorney is on the phone with me right now. His name is Al Watkins. I want you to hear why this guy and supposedly, according to his counselor through his client, a lot of them felt like this was what the president was telling them to do.”

FYI, the president never once told any of his supporters to riot outside the U.S. Capitol and then storm it like insane maniacs.

Watkins nevertheless responded by echoing this false narrative.

“I want to tell you, it’s really important we should stop calling people fools because we have a large percentage of our population who spent a great deal of time in their lives hanging on every word of President Trump,” he said.

Then why did his client storm into the U.S. Capitol in defiance of the president, who prior to the riot had urged his supporters “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”?

Watch the actual interview below:

“He like a lot of other disenfranchised people in our country felt very, very, very solidly in sync with President Trump. They felt, he felt like his voice was for the first time being heard, and what ended up happening over the course of the lead-up to the election — over the course of the period from the election to January 6th — it was a driving force by a man he hung his hat on, he hitched his wagon to,” Watkins continued.

“He loved Trump. Every word, he listened. To him, he felt like he was answering the call of our president. My client wasn’t violent. He didn’t cross over any police lines. He didn’t assault anyone. He was there at the invitation of our president.”

Fact-check: FALSE.

During the “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the U.S. Capitol riot, the president never urged his supporters to storm the building. He merely urged them to march to the Capitol and then “peacefully and patriotically” let their voices be heard.

Listen:

Cuomo responded by explaining his reasoning for referring to Chansely as a fool.

“I call him a fool because that’s what he looks like,” he said.

This is true …

Hilariously enough, Watkins replied by proudly touting his client’s so-called profession: “So you know, he is a genuine Shaman. He has been a long-standing professor of that faith,” he said.

“OK, whatever,” Cuomo pithily replied.

The host then rightly pushed back on Watkins’ claim of innocence by reminding him that his client had not only participated in what was demonstrably a violent riot but had been caught in the Capitol carrying a giant spear, which, FYI, is a weapon.

True:

“The president and his defenders say, ‘Whoa, I never told them to do anything like this. This was just me saying pay attention, now we’re angry about this, let your voice be heard, nobody told them to break into the Capitol,'” Cuomo added.

Correct.

Watkins replied by again smearing the president.

“Well, we all have to understand that the words that were spoken by the president meant something not just to my client. They meant something to a lot of people. They listened to those words, and those words meant something to them,” he said.

“And they had a right to rely on the words of their president that was screwed-forth worldwide, and they did. … Let’s talk candidly. The guy’s wearing a fur. He’s a shaman. He has horns on. He practices yoga, meditates all day long. Couldn’t be a more gentle soft-spoken human being. He’s not a violent man. He’s not alone. And what we as a nation have to understand is our president needs to be accountable for that.”

In other words, the rioters were all perfectly “peaceful” people until Trump came along and told them to be violent. Except Trump never told them to be violent.

“And the only honorable thing for him to do for those who were peace-loving, for those who did go there with peace in mind, that weren’t going there to be violent, Trump needs to stand up and own these people,” Watkins added.

When asked “how” by Cuomo, he replied that the president needs to issue a pardon. This rightly provoked the CNN host into scoffing.

“You want him to pardon the people that broke into the Capitol and killed a policeman!? he asked incredulously.

It appears so.

The interview eventually concluded with Watkins likening Trump to Jones after Cuomo asked him why his client believes “what the president tells him.”

“He believes because he’s not thinking about what he believes. You know, in 1978 a whole bunch of people in San Francisco followed a guy by the name of Jim Jones down to Georgetown. The only thing different here is there’s no Kool-Aid,” Watkins replied.

Except of course for the PCP-laced Kool-Aid he’s clearly been drinking …
