Members of Trump’s Cabinet reportedly mulling 25th Amendment with Dems

Calls to remove President Donald Trump from office via the application of the 25th Amendment have re-emerged once again, though this time allegedly from his own administration — as well as from congressional Democrats, of course.

CBS News’ Margaret Brennan, the host of Face the Nation, reported late Wednesday evening that the president’s own Cabinet is contemplating the unprecedented move.

“This is not news that we deliver lightly, and I want to make clear that what I am explaining here is what is being discussed, whispered about among some Cabinet members today — and that is whether to move forward with formal proceedings to try to invoke the 25th Amendment,” Brennan announced.

“That would allow for the removal of President Trump from office and for Vice President Mike Pence to effectively become commander in chief for the remaining days of the Trump presidency. My sources are telling me it has not been formally presented to the vice president. This is not about to happen. It is, however, being discussed right now.”

Brennan concluded her report by stressing that this isn’t an example of just “political watchers” and “Democrat lawmakers” mulling the use of the 25th — “I’m talking about actual members of the Cabinet.”

It’s unclear how the president himself feels about what’s currently transpiring because he’s been censored and silenced on all major social media platforms.

What’s known is that members of the left have called the Trump’s removal from office via the application of the 25th Amendment countless times, including as recently as the days immediately following the 2020 presidential election.

The difference is that the calls are now allegedly coming from inside his own administration. They’re also reportedly coming from his ostensible allies.

The National Association of Manufacturers, a trade group representing 14,000 manufacturing companies, published a stunning letter late Wednesday calling for Pence “to invoke the 25th Amendment” against Trump, a man whom the group had described as “music to manufacturers’ ears” during the 2016 presidential election.

“Armed, violent protestors who support the baseless claim by outgoing President Trump that he somehow won an election that he overwhelmingly lost, have stormed the U.S. Capitol today, attacking police officers and first-responders, because Trump refused to accept defeat in a free and fair election,” the group wrote.

“This is not law and order. This is chaos. It is mob rule. It is dangerous. This is sedition and should be treated as such. The outgoing president incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favor of anarchy.”

Congressional Democrats have of course also echoed this call.

Were Trump to be removed via the application of the 25th, Pence’s involvement would be mandatory.

“The amendment, which was ratified in 1967 after concerns about the order of succession after John F. Kennedy’s assassination, would allow Pence and a majority of the Cabinet to declare that Trump is unfit for duty. They would then send a letter to Congress about their decision,” The Washington Post notes.

“At that moment, said Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Law, Pence would assume the powers of the presidency. If Trump were in a coma or otherwise incapacitated, Pence would keep that power indefinitely.”

Meaning the VP would “keep that power” until President-elect Joe Biden, whose 2020 win was certified late Wednesday evening, is inaugurated into office on Jan. 20th.

But some Democrats have suggested Congress bypass Pence’s authority by instead impeaching Trump once again — but this time actually convicting him.

Convicting Trump would be possible because Democrats now control both legislative branches of the government thanks to the GOP’s devastating election defeat Tuesday.
