Bill de Blasio crowned ‘Covid Hypocrite of the Year’ after final FU to New Yorkers

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio rang in the New Year by becoming a target of outrage for his tone deaf hypocrisy.

The criticism continues to come in of the Democrat mayor after images showed him dancing with his wife, Chirlane McCray, in a nearly empty Times Square after the iconic ball dropped signaling the new year. The scene earned an instant rebuke even from liberal CNN, which was broadcasting live from the city, and the backlash has continued to reverberate.

With anger over his failed leadership amid an ongoing coronavirus pandemic already at a boiling point, de Blasio sent residents over the edge when he took the stage in Times Square to dance with his wife to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”

The fact that his performance came after he had already urged New Yorkers to avoid the area and stay home to celebrate the New Year only fueled the ire.

“Don’t believe any ‘Doubting Thomases’ that say because there’s not going to be a million people or more in Times Square, it’s not going to be special. It’s going to be actually, arguably, the most special,” de Blasio said on New Year’s Eve. “We are going to be honoring our health care heroes, first responders and folks who did amazing work this year.”

But a few short hours later, the mayor took the stage.

Bravo TV host Andy Cohen, who joined Anderson Cooper for CNN’s live coverage of the night, unloaded on the mayor after the network aired the dancing clip.

“Do something with this city!” Cohen shouted.

But he was far from the only one to call de Blasio out.

After the mayor’s office decided to release video of the dancing couple, “The View” co-host Meghan McCain announced that “everybody hates” the Democrat.

“You’ve always been basically the worst political in modern history – but shutting down the NYC [and] having your own private party in Times Square is really *chefs kiss* the most tone deaf thing I may have ever seen a Mayor do. Everyone hates you DeBlasio,” McCain tweeted.

“Last Dance on the SS NYC Titanic, but where are the life vests for those who have stayed?” asked talk show host and founder of New York’s Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa.

“On New Year’s, if you listened real hard, you could almost hear the teeth of an entire nation grinding as Mayor Bill de Blasio danced with his wife in a virtually empty Times Square. At least Nero made his own music,” legal analyst Jonathan Turley tweeted.

“Celebrations in Times Square for me, but not for thee!” Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean, who lost both of her in-laws in a New York nursing home to COVID-19, tweeted.

And the criticism continued:
