Walmart issued an apology to Senator Josh Hawley after its official Twitter account “mistakenly” called him a sore loser over his election objections.
The retail giant was called out by the Missouri Republican after its verified Twitter account appeared to go rogue and call him out following his announcement of plans to object to the certification of the Electoral College results in the Senate on January 6th.
Hawley announced on Wednesday that he wants lawmakers to investigate potential voter fraud in several states and to pass measures “to secure the integrity of our elections” moving forward. Hawley is the first GOP senator to openly join Republican House members who pledged to object to certifying the presidential election results when Congress meets next week, thus forcing a debate and vote in both the chambers of Congress.
Walmart’s official Twitter feed reacted to the senator’s tweet announcing: “Millions of voters concerned about election integrity deserve to be heard. I will object on January 6 on their behalf.”

“Go ahead. Get your 2 hour debate. #soreloser,” the retail giant posted in a since-deleted tweet that was captured in a screenshot by the Daily Beast’s political reporter Lachlan Markay, among others.

Kyle Plotkin, Hawley’s chief of staff, asked Walmart if it could “explain this one” in a tweet with a screenshot of the comment.
Hi @Walmart. Can you explain this one? https://t.co/GW1NI4JVjw

The senator himself also called out the company, tweeting: “Thanks @Walmart for your insulting condescension. Now that you’ve insulted 75 million Americans, will you at least apologize for using slave labor?”
“Or maybe you’d like to apologize for the pathetic wages you pay your workers as you drive mom and pop stores out of business,” Hawley added.

Walmart Inc.’s Twitter account soon responded to the senator with an apology.
“The tweet published earlier was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team,” the reply stated. “We deleted the post and have no intention of commenting on the subject of certifying the electoral college. We apologize to Senator Hawley for this error and any confusion about our position.”

Casey Staheli, Walmart’s senior manager, told the Washington Examiner that the tweet “was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team who intended to publish this comment to their personal account.”
Not surprisingly, Walmart began trending on Twitter after the incident with many social media users wondering who the massive corporation allowed to run its official Twitter account.
That Walmart social media intern in Beijing is so fired.
— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) December 30, 2020
Markay noted his “hunch” that it likely was not a rogue intern who was now likely fired over the tweet.
The funniest replies to tweets like this are always something about an intern getting fired. Just a hunch, but I have to imagine the world’s largest company does not give interns the keys to its social media accounts.

New York Post op-ed editor Sohrab Ahmari called out the “insulting” tweet as “perfectly telling.”
That insulting @Walmart tweet to a sitting Republican senator (@HawleyMO) was perfectly telling: Corporate elites, and the people who do comms/messaging for them, fear and revile the common-good, national-conservative vision Hawley embodies.
— Sohrab Ahmari (@SohrabAhmari) December 30, 2020
Many other reactions flooded the social media platform:
Hawley got Ben Rhodes to defend Walmart.. Just wild stuff. https://t.co/RbRM5l66rV

The official Walmart account called Senator @HawleyMO a “sore loser” after he announced he will object the certification of Electoral College votes.
Josh Hawley just pissed off Communist China and it’s incredible.

Way to go Walmart!!!!!
You just angered 75 million patriotic Americans!

So @Walmart is calling Sen Hawley a sore loser for standing up for 75 million Americans and questioning election fraud.
Maybe Walmart is terrified of losing their cash cow of Chinese slave labor.

And it wasn’t long before #BoycottWalmart was trending on Twitter.
Wow did Walmart really step in it… No one believes you.. #BoycottWalmart

You’d think that mega-corp’s such as #Walmart wouldn’t trust their social media accounts to the likes of college indoctrinated uber-woke leftists (aka Marxists).
But you’d be wrong.
And now #BoycottWalmart is trending as a result.
Enjoy!

Too late @Walmart already boycotting your stores. I’d rather spend my dollars at my local “Mom &Pop” stores. #BoycottWalmart https://t.co/dc8OE0LijX
