Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp asserted he is focused on getting his state through the pandemic and upcoming Senate runoff elections as he waved off President Donald Trump’s attacks on him as a “distraction.”

The Republican governor, who has raised the ire of the president in the weeks since the November election, said at a press conference on Wednesday that he has supported the “legal process” until November 3 but now has to “follow the laws and the constitution.”

Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger have come under fire by the president, his campaign reelection attorneys and supporters for not doing more to back the battle against alleged voter fraud in last month’s election.

A signature audit this week in one Georgia county concluded that there were no fraudulent absentee ballots, prompting Trump to call on Kemp to resign.

“All of this other stuff is simply a distraction,” Kemp said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“I’ve supported the president. I’ve said that many times. I worked as hard as anybody in the state on his reelection,” the GOP leader added. “Up through November 3rd, I supported the legal process that him or any other campaign can go through in that state, but at the end of the day also have to follow the laws and the constitution.”

The president also took issue with Georgia’s “puppet” Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who accused anyone questioning the election results of taking part in a “misinformation” campaign. Trump attorney Giuliani found it hard to believe Duncan is a Republican.

“The part that I think really hurts us here in Georgia for our January 5th runoff is to have conversations about misinformation,” Duncan told Fox News host Sandra Smith on Wednesday. “It’s to have folks like Rudy Giuliani walking around the Georgia capital today, just talking about misinformation in every syllable. It’s cringeworthy.”

“We’ve got a winning attitude here. Folks in Georgia support conservative leadership. We just need to spend time reminding folks all about it,” Duncan added. “These folks that are trying to figure out ways to flip the election with misinformation is not democracy. It’s not American. I don’t support it and I certainly encourage everybody here listening not to support any sort of misinformation campaign.”

Trump slammed the leaders in a tweet suggesting they are being controlled by Democrats.

Giuliani called out a signature audit in Cobb County this week a “joke,” prompting Kemp to fire back.

“That’s a joke,” the governor said.

“He doesn’t know the Georgia Bureau of Investigation very well. He doesn’t know how hard they have gone after street gangs and human traffickers to save our children, to keep people from getting shot in broad daylight, their cars carjacked. He should do a little more due diligence on the fine men and women that we have at the GBI,” he added. “That’s not how we treat people. They may do that in New York, but that’s uncalled for. These are the finest people you could ever meet in your life, that literally have been putting their life on the line, that literally work 12 hour days doing the signature match.”

Meanwhile, Giuliani testified Wednesday at a Georgia State Senate hearing on election fraud.

The president tweeted that there are “more votes than needed” to flip Georgia in his favor.

“This election is going to live in history…the dirtiest election, the most crooked election, the most manipulated election in American history,” Giuliani said. “People are going to look back on this & they’re going to say, ‘What did you do about it?’”
