Actress Lori Loughlin’s release from prison after her college admissions bribery scandal left one Hollywood colleague less than enthusiastic.
Janet Hubert, who starred in the 90’s NBC sitcom “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” expressed her annoyance with Loughlin’s privilege in a tweet reacting to news that the former “Full House” star had been released from a Dublin, California federal prison where she began her sentence on October 30.
Loughlin was released Monday after serving her two month sentence though her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, is still serving out his five month sentence. The couple had reportedly paid $500,000 as part of a scheme to have their daughters admitted to the University of Southern California.
Her release marked “the end of a very long ordeal” for Loughlin, who “seems beyond relieved that she can put her prison sentence behind her,” an insider told People magazine, adding that it was “the most stressful thing she has ever dealt with.”
Hubert, however, was not too impressed with Loughlin’s punishment.
“So when white actresses commit crimes they get new shows, pilots, etc. Lori Loughlin …I assume, will get an Emmy for her time in prison. Hmmmm…oh to be white, blond, and privileged!” the 64-year-old actress who played Aunt Viv on the iconic “Fresh Prince” series tweeted along with a GIF of herself from the show.
“No thanks I would rather be bold, black, and dignified!” she added, with the hashtag #onlyinamerikkka.

Hubert’s comments generated plenty of reaction on Twitter, with many agreeing with her. Some noted that actress Felicity Huffman, who was also caught up in the scandal and was sentenced to 14 days in jail, is now set to headline a new ABC comedy.
But wait for it…. She’ll receive a roll in a quirky sitcom where they’ll joke and laugh about her stint in prison as if it was just an experience for her to checke off on her bucket list.

Hubert pushed back at those who were critical of her remarks, calling attention to the double standards in another tweet on Wednesday. The actress pointed to a homeless Connecticut mother, Tanya McDowell, who was handed a five-year sentence in 2015 for trying to enroll her then six-year-old son in a better school by using a false address.
“There is a black woman that is serving 5 years for just using a different address to put her child in a better school. Those who are coming angry for my tweet…I will meet you at the door,” Hubert tweeted. “SNL used my photo when talking about this school mess, I was NOT amused. #donnottestme.”

“There are many white parents who are pissed as well,” Hubert responded when another Twitter user agreed with her view.
“College is expensive and hard to get in. We have to start really pushing back. College should be free anyway,” she wrote.

Loughlin’s 21-year-old daughter, Olivia Jade, spoke about her white privilege with Jada Pinkett Smith on the “Red Table Talk” earlier this month.
“I understand that just based on my skin color I already had my foot in the door and I was already ahead of everybody else. Right. I think that 100%. I can recognize that going forward,” she said.
