Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock have come under fire after disturbing screenshots were highlighted from a hip-hop artist who headlined their campaign event in Georgia.
Rapper BRS Kash performed at a drive-in rally to appeal to young voters in an effort to support Warnock who is facing off against incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Ossoff, who is running against Sen. David Perdue. The 27-year-old rapper encouraged attendees at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church event to vote for the Democrats but his controversial Twitter feed was soon exposed.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution covered the rally at the church which also included appearances by FKA DRAM, J.I.D., Tokoyo Jetz and was hosted by Reginae Carter, the daughter of rapper Lil Wayne.
“I wasn’t sure how he would do it, but can report @BRSKash has remixed his extremely explicit hit song (#iykyk) into a GOTV anthem,” AJC reporter Tia Mitchell tweeted along with video from the rally.

“Do the names J.I.D., Tokyo Jetz, Shelley FKA DRAM and BRS Kash ring a bell? If not, Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock’s latest campaign event wasn’t for you,” Mitchell wrote in her piece published Monday, tweeting that the artists were “working HARD” to keep from using the profanity in their song lyrics.
Generally speaking, the artists are working HARD today to keep their lyrics clean. Unfortunately their backing tracks are what they are. One artist just had to switch it up mid-song. He was trying!

But a spokesman from the National Republican Senatorial Committee retweeted a screenshot of a 2012 post by Kash that appeared to reference rape, setting off a firestorm of criticism.
“This is who Georgia Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff had headline their event today. Will they denounce this disgusting individual?” Nathan Brand asked, also wondering if the AJC would update its story.

Will they denounce this disgusting individual? Will @TIAreports update her story to reflect how vile this is? Does the @ajc feel they should be elevating repulsive individuals like this? https://t.co/gcIBBZeRU3 pic.twitter.com/RU7f8C78y3

Soon, others began to uncover more disturbing tweets by the rapper and many pressed Mitchell on why she was “playing press secretary for the Democrats” and not reporting on the real issues.
Still playing press secretary for the Democrats I see. Where is your hard hitting piece on Warnock arrest for covering up abuse, his abuse of his wife allegedly. You would be on Perdue in a second. Greg just come out and say vote for the Democrats. This is shameful

Mitchell responded by saying that she had been unaware of the tweet and updated her AJC story to reflect the outrage over the posts.
“Update: Shortly after the AJC reported on the concert, Republicans took to Twitter to criticize BRS Kash’s inclusion on the program,” she wrote, linking to her article. “Their main criticism was a screenshot that appeared to be from a 2012 tweet referencing rape.”
Brand fired back at Mitchell for defending her ignorance and asking for an “official statement.”
“Shouldn’t Warnock and Ossoff be the ones being asked for a statement? They hosted this guy! Do they stand by these vile comments and this disgusting individual?” he asked.
Official statement?! Shouldn’t Warnock and Ossoff be the ones being asked for a statement? They hosted this guy! Do they stand by these vile comments and this disgusting individual?

Now that I see the tweets I have. My point is I didn’t know there were tweets you guys were concerned about.

Meanwhile, Arthur Schwartz scrutinized BRS Kash’s Twitter feed and found other eyebrow-raising comments made by the rapper campaigning for the Democrats, and also called out Mitchell for “lying” not mentioning “Warnock’s history of spousal abuse” in her piece.
This is who @TeamOssoff & @ReverendWarnock had campaigning for them today. @TIAreports from @AJC didn’t mention this in her reporting. Just like she ignored Warnock’s history of spousal abuse. pic.twitter.com/SC5lnAEbaa

Hey @TIAreports. A lot of people have a problem with an @ossoff / @ReverendWarnock surrogate sharing fantasies about locking up white women in the trunk of their cars. Why are you dismissing those concerns, racist? #gasen #gapol pic.twitter.com/vwQ16AFoda

Hey @TIAreports. Here’s more from @BRSKash who was campaigning for @TeamOssoff & @ReverendWarnock today. Why haven’t you asked the campaigns about their choice of surrogates? This guy sounds like a rapist. #gasen #gapol pic.twitter.com/qhKWj0WOmN
