Actress Kirstie Alley stepped into the debate over coronavirus relief checks for Americans by putting out her own simple solution.
The vocal supporter of President Donald Trump tweeted her take on how Congress can help Americans struggling under the economic effects of the pandemic, offering a “bill” of her own that consisted of just two items.
Alley’s criticism of lawmakers was clear in her social media postings as Trump pushed back last week on the $900 billion coronavirus relief bill that passed in both chambers of Congress. The president called for more than than the “measly $600” that was being allotted to Americans, asking Congress to give out $2,000 direct cash payments instead.
Lawmakers did not deliver on the president’s request to increase the payments but Trump went ahead and signed the omnibus package on Sunday, thus averting a government shutdown.

Meanwhile, Alley had offered her own suggestion on how Congress can provide relief to Americans, many of whom are out of work as businesses have been crippled by government-imposed lockdowns and closures.
“Here’s my bill…. it has 2 items,” the 69-year-old former “Cheers” star wrote to her 1.6 million Twitter followers on Sunday.
“Congress takes no pay for 6 months. Americans receive $1,000 a month for 6 months,” she wrote. “End of Bill.”

A short time later, the actress posted a follow-up, snarky tweet.
“Did my ‘congress quit being paid’ bill pass? I need to check my emails,” she wrote.

In an earlier tweet, Alley told Congress to “Get rid of the BS & give Americans $2,000 relief money.”
“NOW is the time to show favor to Americans. When I read the ridiculous amounts of money for idiotic studies and enormous donations such as the Kennedy Center .. my blood boils. The Kennedy Center can wait. families can’t,” Alley tweeted.

She defended her comment about the Kennedy Center and the arts in a response to Twitter users.
I am all for the Kennedy Center and the arts of course. Now is not the time for the government to fund it. Now is the time for the government to help its people through these hard times. And more importantly open up the damn country! Jobs jobs jobs https://t.co/nSHIuYv9O7

“Congress please stop paying yourself until the rest of the country is allowed to work freely and recover their businesses… It’s the American thing to do,” she said in another tweet.
Meanwhile, Alley’s proposed 2-item plan for COVID-19 relief received plenty of support on the social media platform.
GENIUS!

Simple and concise!

Too much common sense there, Kirstie…and Congress doesn’t do common sense.

Short and to the point. Exactly how the bills should be. Nothing else attached to it.

1) 6 months no pay for Congress and they work in their home district during that period, so we can watch them; 2) open America fully so Anericans will have no need to become dependent on the government!

Now that’s a bill I can get behind.
