Trump unloads on GOP Senators: “I will NEVER FORGET!

President Donald Trump reminded Republican leaders that he will “never forget” them abandoning him during his ongoing battle against the results of the 2020 election.

The president tweeted a scathing rebuke of GOP senators on Christmas Eve, which he was spending at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump noted how those same lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, were helped over their own election finish lines thanks to him, but have not come alongside him in his “fight against a crooked and vicious foe.”

“I saved at least 8 Republican Senators, including Mitch, from losing in the last Rigged (for President) Election,” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

“Now they (almost all) sit back and watch me fight against a crooked and vicious foe, the Radical Left Democrats,” he added. “I will NEVER FORGET!”

Congress is set to meet on January 6 to decide on accepting the Electoral College votes which have given Joe Biden the presidential victory. Some lawmakers have reportedly indicated that they may challenge the results by objecting to counting the electoral votes of some battleground states after Trump’s campaign and others have uncovered voting irregularities.

McConnell urged senators last week not to join in any floor-fight to challenge the electoral votes, raising the ire of the president’s supporters who were also angered that he congratulated Democrat Joe Biden. Some defended the Kentucky Republican’s efforts to avoid any moves that could jeopardize two Senate runoff elections in Georgia that will determine who controls the upper chamber in Congress.

McConnell was reportedly going to reach out directly to Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville, of Alabama, who has indicated he may support an Electoral vote challenge next month. With Trump’s support, Tuberville defeated former Sen. Jeff Sessions in the Alabama Republican primary.

“Ultimately every senator will have to make their own decision about that but I think there will be people, yeah, reaching out him just to kind of find out” what he’s going to do, Senate Republican Whip John Thune said of Tuberville and his plans for the Electoral tally.

“If nothing else, we need to kind of know the plan,” he added. “We’ll see. He’s made some public statements” about objecting to the vote.

Trump slammed Thune in a tweet predicting he would face a primary challenge in 2022.

“I’m sure the leader’s going to reach out and talk to him,” one GOP senator told The Hill,  speaking of McConnell reaching out to Tuberville.

“The question is will [Tuberville] listen because his whole election was predicated on Trump not liking Sessions,” the senator said. “From a cold-blooded standpoint … if Trump asks him, I assume he would probably do it because he would see no downside.”

“I haven’t talked to him about it personally but I’d be shocked if somebody hasn’t talked to him,” Sen. John Cornyn, who called the effort to reverse the election a “futile exercise,” said.

Ahead of the Christmas holiday, the president called for a special counsel to investigate election fraud in the 2020 election.

“After seeing the massive Voter Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election, I disagree with anyone that thinks a strong, fast, and fair Special Counsel is not needed, IMMEDIATELY. This was the most corrupt election in the history of our Country, and it must be closely examined!” Trump wrote.

It seems Trump is not the only one reminding GOP senators to stand up for the integrity of the U.S. election. Millions of the president’s supporters will also not likely forget if Republicans abandon or betray him.
