April Ryan: It’s irresponsible, dangerous if journos report on Biden outside ‘proper channels’

A day after conservative radio show host Ben Shapiro accused the media of being “Democratic mouthpieces” as per their refusal to report critically and honestly about Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden, CNN White House correspondent April Ryan rushed to prove his thesis true.

On Friday someone leaked audio from a private meeting held Tuesday between Biden and civil rights leaders. During the meeting, the Democrat nominee attributed the party’s losses in the House to Republicans having drawn the public’s attention to the party’s calls to “defund the police.”

“That’s how they beat the living hell out of us across the country, [by] saying that we’re talking about defunding the police” he reportedly said.

“We’re not. We’re talking about holding them accountable. We’re talking about giving them money to do the right things. We’re talking about putting more psychologists and psychiatrists on the telephones when the 911 calls through,” he continued.

“We’re talking about spending money to enable them to do their jobs better, not with more force, with less force and more understanding.”

His point — the same one that Georgia Senate candidate Jon Ossoff’s deputy political director, Max Harris, was caught on undercover camera making — is that the Democrats need to be careful with their words and messaging. I.e., though Democrats are calling for defunding the police, they shouldn’t frame it this way, wink wink.

In response to this telling leak, Ryan tweeted the following:

“The question is who leaked this and why? Also I am told by a rights leader in that meeting that @JoeBiden was being more so passionate than defensive. Can’t wait to hear what the Biden camp has to say!” she wrote.

The comment rubbed many the wrong way because it sounded as if she was once again functioning as Biden’s press secretary/PR person versus as a journalist.

One of those to take issue with her sycophancy was Edward Ongweso Jr., a left-wing staff writer for VICE Media’s Motherboard.

Responding sarcastically to her tweet, he wrote, “It is irresponsible and sets a dangerous precedent for journalists covering the incoming administration to be able to use secretly recorded conversations in their stories. To parse out Biden’s thoughts and anticipate his policy commitments, you must go through proper channels.”

He knew full-well that this is a ridiculous standard — one that CNN certainly never applied to President Donald Trump or his wife, first lady Melania Trump.

Yet here’s how Ryan, who purports to be a journalist, responded.

First, she tweeted “Agreed” directly to Ongweso.

Then she retweeted his original tweet and wrote, “You hit the nail in the head!”

Is this supposed to be journalism?

First of all, it’s “you hit the nail ON the end.”

Second of all, her response was so stunning that Ongweso was left awestruck:

Others were left just as confused and shocked.

Glenn Greenwald, an actual journalist with a Pulitzer Prize on his belt, tweeted, “This is one of the most shocking things I’ve seen on this website.”

Look:

What Ryan did — and what she does regularly — doesn’t appear to be journalism.

Nor does this:

But in fairness to CNN, the left-wing network stopped pretending to be a bastion of objective journalism ages ago.

This incident happened a day after Shapiro let off a rant blasting the media as “Democratic mouthpieces” for their prior refusal to cover the bombshell allegations concerning the scurrilous, potentially illegal activities of Biden’s son, Hunter.
