American Urban Radio Networks White House correspondent and CNN political analyst April Ryan chose this week to respond to outgoing White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sander’s upcoming resignation in the most petty, self-aggrandizing way imaginable.
A day after word broke late Thursday that two White House reporters are planning a going-away party for Sanders next week, Ryan took to Instagram to pout and moan about … Iran.
Watch, via Instagram:
“I’m on a cross-country flight and very disturbed that in the midst of serious issues of possible strikes against Iran, that there was no briefing by Sarah Huckabee Sanders,” she said, referencing widely covered reports that President Donald Trump had almost pulled the trigger on a strike against Iran.
“In over 100+ days, the day that she should have had a briefing, she didn’t. Serious issues of life and death. Serious issues of war. And this administration chooses not to brief the American public? Shame.”
The White House stopped holding press briefings months earlier because of the demonstrably far-left media’s habitually abusive, disrespectful antics, all of which have allegedly been driven by various White House correspondents’ desire to boost their image and sell books.
The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the “podium” much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press. I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News!

Plus, it’s not as if Sanders hasn’t been “out there” in other ways.
“[S]he’s out there … all the time on camera, talking to the press,” former White House press secretary Sean Spicer pointed out during an appearance last week on FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle.” “They don’t like it as much because it doesn’t work as well for their cable contracts and their YouTube views and things like that.”
And their Instagram views, it would appear …
“Everything comes to the White House from war to peace — and everything in between,” Ryan continued in her Instagram post Friday. “And there was potential war. And no one stood at that podium to explain to the American public what was going on. But we see it in a tweet. We deserve better.”
“Sarah Huckabee, have your party, I won’t be there. Girl, bye!” Ryan, a woman whom Sanders once graciously baked a pie for, concluded in her petulant Instagram rant.
As of Saturday morning, Ryan’s post had over 22,000 views but only 5,033 likes. Among the hundreds of comments left on her post were plenty ripping into her and her peers in the media for their dubious brand of “journalism.”
“Sarah deserved better than you all gave,” one Instagram user wrote. “As a matter of fact, all of us ‘American people’ deserve better than the crap you all put all as journalism. Thankful we have a President who speaks directly to us. He is so accessible and if you all didn’t hate him so much that it gets in your way you could get some news for us. Until then we will count on the President to tell us directly….”
“But the information is getting out to the public,” another user wrote. “It is just not being filtered by your biased filter. The public does not need your type of editorialized ‘journalism’ anymore. We’ve outgrown you. We are smarter than you thought which is why you are angry. You’ve lost the power to tell us what you think we should believe.”
They were right. Plenty of information about the cancelled strike slowly but surely began popping up all over the place late Thursday and Friday morning.
The president himself addressed the strike in a series of tweets:
President Obama made a desperate and terrible deal with Iran – Gave them 150 Billion Dollars plus I.8 Billion Dollars in CASH! Iran was in big trouble and he bailed them out. Gave them a free path to Nuclear Weapons, and SOON. Instead of saying thank you, Iran yelled…..

….Death to America. I terminated deal, which was not even ratified by Congress, and imposed strong sanctions. They are a much weakened nation today than at the beginning of my Presidency, when they were causing major problems throughout the Middle East. Now they are Bust!….

….On Monday they shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, not….
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 21, 2019
….proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone. I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world. Sanctions are biting & more added last night. Iran can NEVER have Nuclear Weapons, not against the USA, and not against the WORLD!

In some fairness to Ryan, Sanders herself never addressed the issue. In fact, she hasn’t tweeted much since the day she announced her resignation last week, save for this:
Taking off on AF1 for my last trip as WH Press Secretary. https://t.co/JTi7vebGA5
— Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) June 18, 2019
Granted, it could be argued that Sanders has been busy preparing for her final day and presumably prepping her replacement. Those things are kind of important too.
As for Ryan’s rude “Girl, bye!” remark, some social media users have responded by telling her “bye”:
@realDonaldTrump made @AprilDRyan Irrelevant.. Simply by taking questions directly outside. “Bye, Ryan”

@AprilDRyan lady you don’t have one tenth of the amount of class @PressSec has. Even through all your hate spewing racist remarks, you and the Acosta types aren’t going to bring her or our country down. Your time is up bye bye. #trump2024 #cantstandwinning

I don’t care girl. Bye.
— Brian (@BrianRumley) June 22, 2019
April Ryan has zero class. Zero professionalism. If it wasn’t for your disrespect towards Sarah Sanders, no one would know who you are. @AprilDRyan Buh bye.
