Tucker Carlson pulled back the curtain on China’s influence on U.S. policy during a monologue that included a video clip which was deleted from Chinese social media.
The Fox News host told viewers on Tucker Carlson Tonight Monday that America’s political elite have indeed been “compromised by a foreign power,” but that it isn’t Russia, as President Donald Trump’s detractors have claimed for four years. Carlson went on to air a video clip of a professor saying that China “has people at the top of America’s core inner circle of power and influence.”
Carlson played the video clip, which was posted but then deleted from Chinese social media, in a segment that was tweeted by Trump. The video showed Renmin University professor Di Dongsheng bragging that China has been able to “fool the United States” through a network of relationships with top leaders in American government and business.
Di Dongsheng, an associate dean of the School of International Studies at Renmin University in Beijing, said in the video that China has long influenced policy in the U.S. thanks to “old friends” in top levels of government and financial institutions, but that Trump’s administration has thwarted efforts to exert recent influence.

“It turns out that many of the very people who ranted so hysterically about Russia were doing precisely what they claimed to decry. They were working on behalf of our chief global rival, the government of China,” Carlson said in his monologue Monday.
“The Russia hoax, effectively, was a diversion. It hid something that is not a hoax at all but is real and threatening to all of us. We’re going to spend the foreseeable future reporting on the relationship between America’s political and financial elites and the communist government of China that has made many of them very rich,” he added before going on to play the video.
“The Trump administration is in a trade war with us, so why can’t we fix the Trump administration? Why, between 1992 and 2016, did China and the U.S., use to be able to settle all kinds of issues? No matter what kind of crises we encountered … things were solved in no time … We fixed everything in two months,” the professor said in the November 28 lecture, in a translation reported by Fox News.
“What is the reason? I’m going to throw out something maybe a little bit explosive here. It’s just because we have people at the top. At the top of America’s core inner circle of power and influence, we have our old friends,” Di Dongsheng explained.

“This is as close to a smoking gun as we have ever seen,” Carlson told viewers.
The Fox News host went on to highlight some more of the professor’s remarks, including noting that the “Obama administration was easy to manipulate.”
“The Chinese had many friends among the Obama people. The problem came when Donald Trump was elected. After that, he says, everything changed,” Carlson said as he played another part of the video.
“For the past 30 years, 40 years, we have been utilizing the core power of the United States … Since the 1970s, Wall Street had a very strong influence on the domestic and foreign affairs of the United States, so we had a channel to rely on,” Di Dongsheng said. “But the problem is that after 2008, the status of Wall Street has declined, and more importantly, after 2016, Wall Street can’t fix Trump.”
Carlson explained how the professor made it clear that China’s “old friends” were unable to “fix Trump” and they responded by working to get a new president elected.
“But now we’re seeing Biden was elected. The traditional elite, the political elite, the establishment, they’re very close to Wall Street,” Di Dongsheng said.
“Di notes, because the Chinese do pay close attention to what we say here, Donald Trump has complained about Hunter Biden and his ties to the Chinese government,” Carlson elaborated. “So now you know why you weren’t allowed to talk about Hunter Biden’s laptop and why big business aligned as one to suppress that story: Because they were implicated in it.”
China expert Gordon Chang spoke with Carlson following the monologue, warning that if Joe Biden is declared America’s new president, he will be no match for the “incredible arrogance” of the China’s communist government.
“They’re going to push a President Biden around,” Chang told Carlson. “They’re going to do things which are dangerous because we’re going to have to push back. Under President Trump, the Chinese didn’t try this because they were afraid of him. So what I’m concerned about is the state of mind of China … This is dangerous.”

“We know and I know that they are in anticipation, licking their chops about what’s going to happen from Jan. 20 on,” Chang said, referring to Inauguration Day and a potential incoming Biden administration.
He warned that the U.S. and Trump as president need to break the connections the professor was alluding to in his lecture.
“Because if we don’t do that, we are going into a point where we may not be able to deter China,” Chang said, “because they are so arrogant, so belligerent that they think they can buy any American politician, including the president of the United States.”
