First Lady Melania Trump took Americans on a sneak peek into the White House and its glorious 2020 Christmas decorations.
Unveiling this year’s theme of “America the Beautiful,” the first lady was seen in a video released by the White House, highlighting the many breathtaking trees and Christmas decor throughout. With what seemed to be more traditional touches, garlands, ribbons trees and even a train set dubbed the “White House Express” are adorning the spaces.
“During this special time of the year, I am delighted to share ‘America the Beautiful’ and pay tribute to the majesty of our great Nation,” Trump wrote on the official FLOTUS Twitter page where she also shared the video from the White House.
“Together, we celebrate this land we are all proud to call home,” she added.

This year, there are 106 wreaths, 62 trees, more than 1,200 feet of garland, more than 3,200 lights and more than 17,000 bows, according to the first lady’s office.
The East Wing features the Gold Star Family Tree, which is “draped in blue, the color of perseverance and justice,” and pays tribute “to our American heroes and their families who walk beside them in service,” the White House reported.
“This year, families who decorated the tree placed the name of their fallen family member on ribbon that will adorn the tree.”
Foliage representing the official tree of each state and territory is displayed on the East Colonnade while holiday cards sent by first families over the past twelve administrations are featured in the East Garden Room. Stockings for the First Family hang on the fireplace in the China Room while the East Room focuses on American innovation and technology in travel.

The official White House Christmas tree, a Fraser fir at over 18 feet high, stands majestically in the Blue Room.
“Students across the country were asked to artistically depict what makes their state beautiful by highlighting the people, places, and things that capture the spirit of the state in which they call home. Glistening on the branches, their mini masterpieces collectively showcase America, the beautiful,” according to the first lady’s office.
The tree was welcomed to the White House by the first lady ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday last week.

A tribute to first responders and frontline workers is found in the Red Room where handmade ornaments highlight the many essential workers who made a difference amid a global pandemic this year.
A gingerbread house is on display in the State Dining room and is made of 275 pounds of gingerbread dough, 110 pounds of dough, 30 pounds of gum paste, 25 pounds of chocolate, and 25 pounds of royal icing.
“Over the past four years I have had the honor to travel to some of our nation’s most beautiful landmarks and meet some of the most compassionate and patriotic American citizens,” Mrs. Trump said. “From coast to coast, the bond that all Americans share is an appreciation for our traditions, values, and history, which were the inspiration behind the decorations this year.”

The first lady noted that the decorations went up over the weekend with the help of “volunteers from all across the country.”
“Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who worked to make sure the People’s House was ready for the holiday season,” she said. “Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.”
This year’s lighting of the National Christmas Tree will take place on Friday, December 3, but the National Park Service and National Park Foundation will not be hosting a live audience due to COVID-19.
“The National Christmas Tree will be lit every evening throughout December,” the National Park Foundation said in a press release. “Visitors are invited to President’s Park to view the National Christmas Tree and 56 trees representing every U.S. state, territory and the District of Columbia, decorated with ornaments designed by students from across the country.”
