An incoming Republican member of Congress from New York issued a special message about socialism to the progressive women in the House known as “The Squad.”

Staten Island Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis ran her successful congressional bid focusing on law and order and her opposition to socialism. The Republican won New York’s 11th District Congressional race last week against incumbent Rep. Max Rose and is ready to take on the socialist rhetoric in Washington, D.C.

Malliotakis, whose mother is from Cuba and father from Greece, joins other incoming Republicans who have deeply personal views about the dangers of socialism, as her family’s background will likely continue to drive her challenge to the rhetoric on the left.

The 40-year-old posted an ominous message to the four prominent progressive members of Congress, Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

“An anti-socialist squad is forming…,” Malliotakis tweeted, responding to an observation by Townhall contributor Gabriella Hoffman who noted that among the new crop of GOP lawmakers just elected, there are several who know full well about socialism.

“I still have relatives that live in Cuba,” Malliotakis told City&State New York in a recent interview.

“I know the oppression that they live under. We need to do what we can as a nation to continue to be the leader of the free world and try to promote freedom and democracy everywhere. It’s certainly something of interest to me as the daughter of a Cuban refugee,” she said.

She also commented on being one of a group of nearly a dozen Cuban-Americans in Congress.

“Senator Marco Rubio supported me, as did Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, a Cuban-American from Miami. I know Maria Elvira Salazar, who was just elected, also representing Miami, and I also met Carlos Giménez, who’s the mayor (of Miami-Dade County), now elected (to the House) also on Tuesday,” she told the outlet.

“There’s going to be a Cuban Caucus there. I think it’s important, because Cuban-Americans know more than anyone what socialism and communism mean and are very vigilant when it comes to individuals who want to take away any freedoms or liberties or move us down a path to socialism,” Malliotakis added.

“Our voices are going to be significant. We may have a little anti-socialist squad forming in Congress,” she said.

Malliotakis announced Thursday that her opponent had conceded the race after what had been a highly contentious campaign.

Rose became one of 10 House Democrats across the country who lost their seats to Republicans, despite their smug confidence that there would be a “blue wave” on Election Day. Rose had slammed his Republican challenger and National Republican Congressional Committee as “jokes” and vowed he would win by an “incredible margin.”

“So first of all, I am not concerned at all by the NRCC or anyone that wants to try and challenge me, because they already tried once and we kicked their ass! OK?” Rose said at the time as seen in a video from October 2019.

“And guess what, that’s exactly what is going to happen again!” he said. “They have been absolute jokes, they will continue to be jokes, and I look forward to beating them by an incredible margin.”

The NRCC shared that video with an added jab at the Democrat after he conceded the race Thursday.

Meanwhile, the promise of an anti-Squad was celebrated on social media as well.
