Candace Owens pointed to recent support of President Trump from prominent black artists and recalled how she was once mocked over the idea of a “black exit” from the Democratic Party.

The author and conservative activist spoke with “Fox & Friends” on Friday about rapper Lil Wayne sharing on social media that he had met with the president and how Democrats have failed the black community. Owens noted how the party is angry now after several vocal endorsements of Trump and his policies from the voter bloc they thought was secured for them.

“Do you remember two years ago I sat on that ‘Fox & Friends‘ couch next to you and I said there will be a Black exit from the Democratic Party?” Owens asked on “Fox & Friends” Friday.

“And I remember the reaction from every other news industry — they mocked me, they caricatured me, they laughed at me, they said it will never happen,” she added. “They’re not laughing anymore, right, they’re angry now. First, it was Kanye West, Ice Cube, Lil Pump, now we have Lil Wayne, I mean these are the most successful rappers and they are coming out and they are taking a stand against this narrative.”

Rapper Lil Wayne announced on Twitter that he had just “had a great meeting” with the president, adding that Trump “listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”

Other prominent rappers, including Kanye West, Lil Pump and 50 Cent, had also spoken favorably of the president though West eventually launched his own presidential bid in July and 50 Cent apparently walked back his endorsement last week.

Actor and rapper Ice Cube also spent days defending himself after he revealed he was working with Trump on his “Platinum Plan” for black Americans, telling “Fox News Sunday” that he is “not playing politics with this.”

“I predicted a black exit. I started an organization “BLEXIT”. You saw weeks ago we marched over 2,000 black and Hispanic leaders through Washington D.C. in support of American principles, conservative principals and supporting police lives,” Owens told Fox News co-host Ainsley Earhardt.

“I mean this is huge stuff that we’re talking about and you want to know why? It’s because the Democrat Party has had our vote for 60 years and they have done absolutely nothing but fear monger and race bait ahead of a presidential election every four years and the time is up,” Owens said.

Democrats are “angry” because they “always felt that there was something proprietary about black Americans,” she explained.

“Think about the things that we have heard out of Joe Biden’s mouth: ‘You ain’t Black if you don’t vote for me.’ Not looking to justify any of his policies: you’re a ‘deplorable’ if we don’t vote for Hillary Clinton. They’re not even trying and look at — what have their policies actually done to serve the black community? Every single progressive policy leads to regressive results,” she added, also criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Look at our communities, they’re being burned down, rioted and looted and you’re using this slogan Black Lives Matter to justify this stuff,” Owens said. “Black Americans are hurting in this country and President Donald J. Trump is providing an alternative.”

She weighed in on the backlash Ice Cube has come under for cooperating with the administration and working with the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner who Owens defended as well.

“For the first time in this country black Americans are waking up and we do want it. We are tired of being cast aside as victims, a narrative that they serve up and they drum up every four years that divides this country. Stop judging me based on the color of my skin. That’s really what we are saying,” Owens told Earhardt “That’s what it is all about, judge me based on my ideas and my actions and that’s exactly what this administration is doing.”

She pointed to the path for Americans to get past the race narrative being pushed by the left.

“We know who is causing the fracturing in this nation. It’s not President Trump. It’s not his policies. It’s the mainstream media that seeks to divide. And it’s not just based on race,” she said.

“All of this is divisive. That’s what they are looking for. They’re looking to divide us into groups based on color, based on gender, based on religion. And we have to stand up and say no because we are all united as Americans,” Owens asserted. “We are united by a philosophy. We believe if you come to this country and work hard, this country can and will reward you.”
