A ludicrous new video advertisement from the Lincoln Project sparked a wave of reaction but for all the wrong reasons.
The anti-Trump group released a one-minute video this week that was aimed at striking terror into the hearts of Americans about President Trump winning a third term to office. But the overdramatic scene of a mother waking her young son to break the election news to him prompted endless mockery on social media where many suggested that it should be nominated for an Oscar.
“Who won?” the boy asked after being awakened by the mother in the video tweeted Tuesday and captioned, “Good night, America.”
“Trump. Trump won,” the mother replied with a somber expression.
“But I thought you could only be president two times?” the child asked.
“Not anymore,” his mother answered as the ad urged Americans to vote Trump out of office and the graphic read, “Stop him, or it will never stop.”
Oh man. How can this be real? https://t.co/BeezuHvLNJ

The video certainly shook anti-Trumpers who were horrified by the very idea, but the Lincoln Project was roasted for the melodrama.
Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro was one of many who could hardly contain his laughter, calling it “the single funniest ad I have ever seen.” He pointed out that the only president to serve for more than two terms was Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt, prompting the passage of the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, which limited presidents to two terms.

“This ad sums up all of liberal feeling, “Shapiro said on “The Ben Shapiro Show” Wednesday, giving the group “kudos.”
“The Lincoln Project has raised tens of millions of dollars…from Democrats because Democrats think ‘oh these are people who have decided to leave Trump behind and they’re going to lead the fight here,'” he said, pointing out that once Trump is no longer in office, the group “will be tossed on the side of the road like a used condom.”
“No one’s going to care about them. They’ll go back to being tepid Republican racists in five seconds flat,” Shapiro said. “But they are cutting some amusing ads and paying themselves lots of money to do so.”
The political action committee was formed last year by a number of former Republicans with a common goal of preventing Trump’s reelection. The president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner recently threatened legal action against the group after it put up billboards in New York City critical of the administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the group’s relentless campaign against the president, the latest video caught lots of attention for the wrong reasons as social media users tried to even understand the logic behind the fear-mongering.
You spent donor’s contributions to make this?
Is it titled “Karen” tells her 8 year old boy a make believe story about presidential term limits ? 🤣— LeftCABeforeTheBluePlague 🇺🇸 (@LP4_America) October 27, 2020
It doesn’t make any sense. The kid would have known that Trump was running for a third term already.

Others wondered if it was even real.
it’s genuine Lincoln Project material.

One great takeaway was the unintended self-own by the Lincoln Project.
I love that in this simulation he not only won this reelection next week, but has continued winning despite the Lincoln Project’s best efforts to tweet him into submission

So the @ProjectLincoln has admitted it is an abject failure?
— Gus Pickerill (@guspick) October 27, 2020
So they’re admitting they’ll fail not only for this election but the next one too? Excellent self own.

The verdict is in and the video was classified as comedy gold.

amazing payoff. i take everything back. the $40M they vacuumed up from maddow viewers in the third quarter was very much well-earned.

holy shit I am choking from laughing too hard

Trump should redo this exact same ad, but at the end the kid jumps up, puts on a red hat, and shouts, “MAGA!”
— Frank J. Fleming (@IMAO_) October 27, 2020
I think I gave myself a hernia.

The parent who is deranged by Trump enough to wake up her eight year old child with election results in the middle of the night would definitely not allow him to have bedsheets decorated with the American flag

I may watch this one every single day…it’s that good 😂
