First lady Melania Trump has penned an essay addressing the secret audio tapes of her that a former longtime “friend” released to CNN earlier this month.
After being aired for the first time by CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Oct. 1, the tapes went viral among the left and were used to unsuccessfully try and smear the first lady.
The tapes were provided to Cooper by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a fashion and entertainment executive who once described Melania as “the sister I never had before.”
Wolkoff reportedly organized President Donald Trump’s inauguration and later served as the first lady’s senior advisor up until a falling out in early 2018.
In an essay published Friday, Melania first wrote about her unrelenting desire “to help children” but then quickly pivoted to how this goal has been perverted by malevolent, “self-serving adults” like Wolkoff, and their media enablers.
“We all know that more often than not, information that could be helpful to children is lost in the noise made by self-serving adults. I have most recently found this to be the case as major news outlets eagerly covered salacious claims made by a former contractor who advised my office,” she wrote.
“A person who said she ‘made me’ even though she hardly knew me, and someone who clung to me after my husband won the Presidency. This is a woman who secretly recorded our phone calls, releasing portions from me that were out of context, then wrote a book of idle gossip trying to distort my character.”
This past September Wolkoff published a memoir, “Melania and Me,” filled to the brim with gossip and innuendo about the first lady. It was as if she was seeking to be the female version of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey.
“Her ‘memoir’ included blaming me for her ailing health from an accident she had long ago, and for bad news coverage that she brought upon herself and others,” the first lady’s essay continued.
“Never once looking within at her own dishonest behavior and all in an attempt to be relevant. These kinds of people only care about their personal agenda—not about helping others.”

(Wolkoff now faces a lawsuit from the Department of Justice filed this week that reportedly accuses her of violating a confidentiality agreement she’d signed when she’d accepted the job of senior advisor in 2017.)
Melania then turned her focus to the media
“Once again, outlets chose to focus their coverage on pettiness over my positive work. There are plenty of opportunists out there who only care about themselves, and unfortunately seek to self-aggrandize by knowingly taking advantage of my goodwill,” she wrote.
“Anyone who is focused on tearing things down for their own gain, after knowing what I stand for, has lost sight of what we are here to accomplish and who we are here to serve. To push forward a personal agenda that attempts to defame my office and the efforts of my team, only takes away from our work to help children.”
Indeed, no matter what the first lady tries to accomplish, the media almost always report on her activities in a negative light by linking her actions to the words of her husband:

It’s as if they define her worth based on her husband, not her. It seems sexist.
But to be fair, there have been a few rare moments when SOME in the media have come to her defense. Back in 2017, CNN allowed Enough is Enough president Donna Rice Hughes to pen a piece pushing back on all the smears faced by the first lady.
“Never has there been so much lingering hostility so long after a presidential election. Much of this hostility has been aimed at the first family, with a particularly cruel emphasis on Melania Trump,” Hughes wrote.
“And yet, despite the barrage of insults attacking her, including the New York Times reporter who referred to her as a hooker and the ex-boxer who called her a golddigger, the first lady continues to demonstrate grace, kindness and patience. ”
She then praised Melania for having “emerged as a thoughtful and courageous advocate for a safer, kinder cyberculture for children and families” despite the bullying and harassment that she herself was having to endure, and pleaded with Americans to “check our differences at the door for the sake of the children and our nation, and constructively focus on what unites us.”
Unfortunately, Hughes’ plea for civility had no effect. Since 2017, Melania has faced an endless onslaught of abuse, some of it even from people who claim to be Republican:

In concluding her essay, Melania urged her own team members and supporters to ignore the mindless hatred and “remember what we are all about and what we are trying to accomplish together.”
“I would remind the media that they have the choice of focusing on our next generation. As a country, we cannot continue to get lost in the noise of negativity and encourage ambition by those who seek only to promote themselves,” she added.
“Thank you to all who have given us support. Thank you for you tireless efforts and for your love of this country. I look forward to working with you closely over the next four years.”
