A self-identified gay Republican man said Saturday he thinks President Donald Trump has done more for the LGBTQ community and black Americans than any other president.

“This man here has done more for the gay community and the black community and all minorities than any president we’ve had in history,” a supporter identified as “Heath” told Breitbart News outside Walter Reed Medical Center, where the president is recovering from COVID-19 and throngs of supporters have been gathering.

Heath told Breitbart that he’s always voted for Republicans, but that previously, he never felt like he could admit it.

“That last two years have been such an eye-opening for me. I’ve always voted Republican, but I’m a gay man,” he said. “And as a gay man, you couldn’t come out and say you voted Republican.

“Well, a few years ago, it was found out that I’m a Republican and so I said, ‘Hell with it. I’m kicking the door right open.’ And so I was coming out of the closet again, but it was harder coming out of the closet as a Republican and a conservative than it ever was as a gay man,” he added.

Pointing towards Walter Reed, Heath continued, “The man has done so much for our community but the mainstream media twists it so much, and they will not give him credit for anything he’s done.

“I mean, he’s called out world leaders who has [sic] persecution of gays and lesbians in their countries,” he said. “He’s the first president that ever went into his first term supporting gay marriage already. He called out the gay and lesbian community in a Republican National Committee in 2016. It’s unheard of.

“This is the new Republican Party,” Heath went on. “The man that’s laying over in that hospital bed does not care what your sexuality is, he does not care what your gender is, he doesn’t care what your race is. If you are a good person, that’s what he cares about.”

Heath said he saw President Trump last week during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh, calling the campaign rally “the most amazing thing I ever…”

“I’m a grown man and I cried when he walked on stage, and I’ve never done that. The only other time I ever felt that way was in 2008 when I actually met [then-vice presidential nominee] Sarah Palin. I love her, too,” Heath said, adding that he’s been canvassing on behalf of the president for two days while in the area.

“We’ve gotta get this man reelected,” he said.

Asked if he had a message for the president Heath said, “President Trump, if anyone can kick this virus, you can,” adding that he had contracted the virus as well earlier and had gotten through it.

“And then he’s gonna be back on the [inaudible] and we’re gonna win in a landslide, and we’re gonna win four more years and Joe Biden is gonna ride off in the sunset like he should have done 27 years ago after 20 years in office,” Health said, adding: “Go President Trump and four more years, we love you.”

In a video message to the country on Saturday, Trump said he is “feeling much better.”

“I came here I wasn’t feeling so well. I feel much better now,” the president said. “We are working hard to get me all the way back, I have to be back because we still have to make America great again. We’ve done an awfully good job at that, but we still have steps to go and we have to finish that job,” he said.
