President Donald Trump has secured the endorsement of dozens of former senior government officials spanning decades of Republican administrations.
A group of 70 former officials going back to the administration of President Richard Nixon announced their endorsement of Trump in a letter on Monday, pointing to how he has “brought a badly needed realism” to the nation’s national security policy and prioritized the “prosperity and security of the American people.”
The group of governors, senators, national security advisers, military generals and ambassadors announced their support of the president in an open letter released Monday, citing his pursuit of a “strong foreign and national security policy in America’s interests.”
The former officials from the administrations of George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Reagan, Nixon and Ford as well as Trump, cited several of the president’s foreign policy accomplishments including imposing “the toughest sanctions in history against China, Iran, North Korea and Russia.”
The letter also noted Trump’s recent brokering of a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, pressing for additional funding from NATO allies and the creation of a U.S. Space Force “while closing the gap in space in the dual threats of Chinese and Russian hypersonic weapons and anti-satellite technology.”

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former U.S. ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour were among the names who signed off on the letter. The effort was led by Trump’s former deputy national security adviser, KT McFarland, along with, among others, Christopher Burnham, the former assistant secretary of the State Department and Under Secretary General of the United Nations during George W. Bush’s presidency.
Former U.S. ambassador to El Salvador under Bush, Charles Glazer, as well as Deroy Murdock, a former member of the Department of Education in the Reagan administration, were also part of leading the effort.
The letter called attention to Trump’s strong stand on Iran and his authorization of the drone strike in January that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s top security commander and leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The letter noted that Iran’s “march to a nuclear weapons capability” was “set back significantly” by the president’s actions.
The former officials also lauded Trump’s hard-line stance on the Beijing government, noting that “more than any previous president,” Trump is holding China accountable.
Concluding that a president’s duty and loyalty are owed to the American people, and “not the international community,” and noting “for all these reasons,” the signatories ended the letter saying “we proudly will vote for him.”

The letter came days after a group of nearly 500 former national security officials endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
The National Security Leaders for Biden group claimed in a letter released last week that Trump “has demonstrated he is not equal to the enormous responsibilities of his office” and “cannot rise to meet challenges large or small.”
But former George W. Bush official, Christopher Burnham, pointed out that Trump’s foreign policy “scoreboard” cannot be denied.
“President Trump has, in less than four years, achieved a remarkable number of successes on behalf of our nation,” Burnham said in a statement to Fox News. “His opponents bristle at his methods, but the scoreboard speaks for itself. America is winning and we want to keep winning — therefore, we urge our fellow Americans to vote for Donald Trump.”
“President Trump’s foreign policy has strengthened America’s national security, advanced the cause of peace in the Middle East, and has held the Chinese, Russian and Iranian governments accountable,” former U.S. ambassador to El Salvador Charles Glazer told Fox News in a statement. “President Trump has and will continue to have the fortitude and leadership to keep Americans safe, at home and abroad.”
Pompeo called out the media for its coverage of Trump’s foreign policy during his interview with Levin, speaking on the significance of the deal the president brokered between Israel and the UAE.
“I couldn’t tell you if they understand it,” Pompeo said of the media’s failure to grasp the weight of the accomplishment. “If they do, it’s willful deceit to the American people how they speak about this.”

“I’ve watched the accomplishments we’ve achieved,” he continued. “I could tick off half a dozen here as we sit, right, the strike against Qassem Soleimani, the change to the Middle East, the economic power that we have used to influence our allies and friends to be partners with our friends and to deny resources to regimes like the one that sits in Iran.”
“We don’t hear those stories very often in the traditional media outlets, whether that’s The Washington Post or The New York Times or wherever it may be,” Pompeo said. “But I’m confident that the American people will come to see that the world is safer and their lives are more secure as a result of the way President Trump has done it.”
