U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard introduced legislation to ban ballot harvesting and cited an undercover investigation by Project Veritas in her call to help pass the bill.
The Hawaii Democrat and former 2020 presidential hopeful tweeted a message along with her video about the ballot harvesting issue on Monday, angering some in her party when she noted the issue is bipartisan. Gabbard called for support for the bill introduced with U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois called the Election Fraud Prevention Act.
“Banning ballot harvesting is not a partisan issue. It’s been used and abused in states like North Carolina and California and is ripe for fraud,” Gabbard initially wrote on Twitter September 18 when the legislation was introduced.
“It is important to remember that the strength of our democracy lies in the integrity of our elections, that every one of us has to have faith that our vote will count,” she said in the video.
“But right now there are still many states in our country that allow for something called ballot harvesting,” she added, explaining the system that “allows for third parties to collect and deliver ballots for other people, potentially large numbers of people.”
Project Veritas offers further evidence of the need to ban ballot harvesting. It’s not a partisan issue. It’s been abused to help both R & D candidates, including in North Carolina & California. “Our vote is our voice,” Gabbard continued. “So, whether in the midst of a pandemic, as we are now, where mail-in voting is likely to drastically increase, or even in a normal election, no one, should get in between a voter and the ballot box.”
After posting the video message earlier this month, Project Veritas released an explosive investigation into the campaign of U.S. Rep Ilhan Omar, exposing an alleged scheme that involved a cash-for-ballots operation. The undercover videos showed a man, Liban Mohamed, discussing harvesting ballots for then-Minneapolis city council candidate Jamal Osman.
Community activist Omar Jamal alleged that Omar pays for ballot harvesting, saying in the video that Liban Mohamed is “not the only one who works for her.” While Omar’s spokesperson denied the accusations, President Trump called for an investigation.
“This is totally illegal,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Hope that the U.S. Attorney in Minnesota has this, and other of her many misdeeds, under serious review??? If not, why not??? We will win Minnesota because of [Omar], and law enforcement.”

“Project Veritas offers further evidence of the need to ban ballot harvesting,” Gabbard wrote on Twitter following the release of the video.
“It’s not a partisan issue. It’s been abused to help both R & D candidates, including in North Carolina & California. Please help by telling your congressional rep to pass our bipartisan bill HR8285,” Gabbard added in the message that retweeted her earlier video.
In her video, Gabbard explained that the proposed legislation “protects the chain of custody” for ballots by “prohibiting funding from going to states ” that allow ballot harvesting. But her remarks did not seem to win over some liberals who apparently took offense to her description of the issue as bipartisan.

Other Twitter users thought Gabbard should just go ahead and change her political party.
She needs to change parties
