Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld slammed the media and the manufactured outrage over the latest “bombshell” about President Donald Trump.
The co-host of “The Five” called out the reactions to the New York Times story claiming it had secured decades worth of Trump’s tax returns which showed he had paid little to nothing to the IRS for years. Gutfeld mocked the liberal media on Monday for not being able to grasp the details because “this story involves numbers.”
“Another day, another media bombshell — that lands with a thud,” Gutfeld began his monologue on “The Five” Monday.
“Imagine a loaf of bread hitting the pavement from the roof of your house. That’s the New York Times’ report on Trump’s old tax returns,” he said, referring to the article which was published on Sunday.
“Oh, Pillsbury Cronkite, is this one of the most important stories of the past 5 years?” Gutfeld continued, mocking CNN’s Brian Stelter, who then appeared in a video clip reacting to the Times’ story.

“This is one of the most important stories of the past 5 years. Not one of the most important stories of the past year, but one of the most important stories of the past five years,” the CNN host said.
“I’d say his hair is on fire, but too late for that,” Gutfeld quipped before addressing the tax story.
The Times published information allegedly gleaned from Trump’s long-sought-after tax returns, reportedly showing that he paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016, the year he was elected president. He allegedly paid another $750 in 2017, his first year in the White House.
Claiming to have the president’s tax returns going back more than two decades, which allegedly showed “chronic losses and years of tax avoidance,” the newspaper also said that Trump had paid no taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years “largely because he reported losing much more money than he made.”
The president slammed the Times on Sunday, calling the report, “made up” and “totally fake news” while Democrats and the liberal media were up in arms about what the numbers purportedly revealed.
“Now, because this story involves numbers it’s hard on the media. They couldn’t tally a 20 percent tip on a dollar beer,” Gutfeld noted.
“But sorry guys, no laws were broken. And sorry, CNN, no signs of Russia here” he added. “Because if there were either of those, that would’ve been the lede. Instead, it’s Trump knows taxes.”
In fact, the Times report appeared to acknowledge that Trump’s tax returns did not reveal “any previously unreported connections to Russia,” nor “any itemized payments to Mr. Cohen,” referring to Trump’s former lawyer. And Trump’s longstanding contention that he cannot release the documents because he is being audited was also confirmed by the article.
“Trump said it long ago. If you don’t follow the tax laws you’re stupid. Because the alternative is to make stuff up and send extra cash to Uncle Sam, who pays people like Biden to nap,” Gutfeld said.
“Here’s a tip: when you own real estate, depreciation and maintenance can outpace the rent you get. You deduct that. And it’s your accountant’s duty not to cure inequality, but to legally keep as much of your cash as possible,” he continued.
“The media assumes you won’t know this. I didn’t — for the longest time. I had to educate myself on taxes, mortgages, loans. I didn’t learn it at school. But I did learn that ‘Moby Dick’ had homoerotic underpinnings.” Gutfeld said, citing an English major.
“The bottom line: Anyone who pays more taxes than legally owed is an idiot. If you want to pay more, then write the check, sucker,” he continued.
“But what’s the bigger story for you? That this lame story lands a day before the biggest debate ever,” he said, adding that it is a “collusion of bombshells” dropped in order to sway the election.
“But, as gramps once said about failed courtships, Trump stories are like buses. You miss one, there’s another coming in 15 minutes,” Gutfeld concluded. “Except now it’s every 15 seconds. And all of them are lighter-than-air.”
