House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was called out on her hypocrisy after she complained about President Trump’s “disdain” for working families.
The California Democrat showed a stunning lack of self-awareness in her criticism of the president and was reminded by social media users of her tone-deaf display earlier this year of her expensive freezer packed with gourmet ice cream during the coronavirus pandemic.
Democrats are up in arms following a New York Times report that claimed Trump paid no taxes for years and suffered major losses in his business. They demanded the president release his tax returns after the newspaper alleged it had secured the sought-after documents which reportedly showed that he paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016, the year he was elected president. He allegedly paid another $750 in 2017, his first year in the White House.
Trump dismissed the “totally fake news” by the Times during a press briefing on Sunday.

“The New York Times reporting provides a window into the extraordinary measures that President Trump has used to game the tax code and avoid paying his fair share of taxes, while hard working Americans are, ” Pelosi said in a statement released Sunday.
She declared that the report provided “evidence of the clear need” for the lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department being launched by Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal.
“With the leadership of Representatives Anna Eshoo, Bill Pascrell, Lloyd Doggett and John Sarbanes, the House passed a requirement that presidents disclose their personal and business tax returns as part of our H.R. 1, the For The People Act,” Pelosi continued.
“It is a sign of President Trump’s disdain for America’s working families that he has spent years abusing the tax code while passing a GOP Tax Scam for the rich that gives 83 percent of the benefits to the wealthiest 1 percent,” the Democrat concluded.

The statement, from the sixth-richest member of the House of Representatives, earned immediate backlash. The speaker earns $223,500 per year in Congress and is worth an estimated $114 million, according to her 2018 personal financial disclosure report.
Thanks to her husband’s real estate and venture capital investment and consulting firm, the couple has $46.5 million in holdings and the congresswoman, who has been in office since 1987, is the 10th richest member of the House, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
That glaring double standard in her condemnation of Trump earned Pelosi a boatload of backlash on Twitter.
You have absolutely no credibility. While people in California were suffering economically, you broke all the rules for a hair shampoo and wash. Just retire please, America will do fine without you, especially Congress. #VoteTrump @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/xB9xHBSo7z

Members of Congress, responsible for writing and voting on the tax code, now blaming people for taking advantage of all legal means to reduce their income taxes. If there’s a problem, it’s with you and the rest of Congress, not Trump. Maybe you should read it before voting on it

Would @SpeakerPelosi care to enlighten everybody about what body of government (that she’s currently the head of and has been in for over 30 years) writes the tax laws? https://t.co/zbo6RRwcUj

Do America a huge favor and resign. You’re a complete failure as Speaker of the House and you represent absolutely no one!

Abused?
The tax code was just asking for it.
The tax code is a masochist.
What they do in the privacy of their own tax forms is none of my business, you kink shamer.
