A Louisville police major has been relieved of her duties and will be retiring after sending out a scathing email last month in which she called out Black Lives Matter activists and Antifa supporters.

Maj. Bridget Hallahan was criticized by local officials and relieved of her command of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Fifth Division after saying in an email that activists will one day be “the ones washing our cars” and “cashing us out at the Walmart.”

“We are aware of these emails and we have been looking into them,” interim Chief Robert Schroeder, who had announced that he is retiring Oct. 1,  said during a news briefing on Friday, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal. “They were her personal opinions and do not represent the views of this department.”

Hallahan will serve her last day with the department on Oct. 1, following the fallout from the August email in which she told colleagues that she understood how difficult it was to “keep our thoughts and opinions to ourselves sometimes, especially when we, as a whole or as an individual, become the target of people in the public who criticize what we do without even knowing the facts.”

“These ANTIFA and BLM people, especially the ones who just jumped on the bandwagon ‘yesterday’ because they became ‘woke’ (insert eye roll here), do not deserve a second glance or thought from us. Our little pinky toenails have more character, morals, and ethics, than these punks have in their entire body,” the email continued.

“Do not stoop to their level. Do not respond to them,” Hallahan reportedly wrote. “If we do, we only validate what they did. Don’t make them important, because they are not. They will be the ones washing our cars, cashing us out at the Walmart, or living in their parents’ basement playing COD for their entire life.”

The 47-year-old Louisville police major also claimed that officers and their families have been “doxed merely because people just don’t like being told what to do or what not to do by police.”

“There is currently no recourse we have for incidents involving the doxing of officers or their families,” her message read. “What we can do is speak up against them and put the truth out there. Through the PIO office and the LMPD FB page, we will come back at them on their own page to let them and everyone else know they are lying. We will print the facts. I will see to it.”

She also let officers know they could come to her office to “vent together” if they needed to.

Metro Councilman Brandon Coan found the email to be “out of character” for Hallahan, who was appointed commander of the Fifth Division last July after leading the training division of the LMPD.

“I’m disappointed,” he told The Courier-Journal.

“I think it’s a totally unacceptable attitude of any police officer and extremely poor leadership from a major. I think she owes the community an apology and she’ll have to deal with the consequences of her conduct.”

Councilman Bill Hollander, whose district, like Coan’s, is covered by the Fifth Division, had reportedly urged Louisville’s Democratic Mayor Greg Fischer to relieve Hallahan of her duties.

“I think it hurts the entire department,” he said of the email. “It’s making constituents wonder what kind of people we’re really employing and promoting to leadership positions. And that’s very unfortunate. Our police officers have a very difficult job and they don’t need this kind of inappropriate communication.”

Hallahan’s message surfaced after another email had emerged from Louisville Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, one of the officers involved in the deadly shooting of Breonna Taylor back in March. Mattingly, who was wounded during the shooting, blamed the mayor and other officials for failing “all of us in epic proportions for their own gain and to cover their a—-,” according to the Courier-Journal.

“You DO NOT DESERVE to be in this position,” he reportedly wrote. “The position that allows thugs to get in your face and yell, curse and degrade you. Throw bricks bottles and urine on you and expect you to do nothing.”

Meanwhile, Twitter users responded to news of Hallahan’s departure from the department, applauding her honest appraisal of rioters and activists and wondering what was wrong with her remarks.
