Sen. Mitt Romney’s spokesperson pushed back against claims that the Republican was “committed” to not confirming a new Supreme Court Justice until 2021.
News of the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday sparked immediate panic in liberal America and, with meltdowns over filling her vacant seat on the high court, eyes turned to lawmakers who would be part of the confirmation process. But reports that Romney had taken a stand against voting on a nominee before the election turned out to be “fake news.”
The liberal call to action to oppose any Supreme Court nominations by President Trump, though it is his duty to fill the vacancy left by Ginsburg, sparked a flurry of social media responses claiming certain senators had indicated they would not vote before Inauguration Day 2021 if he moved ahead.
Sen. Susan Collins
Sen. Chuck Grassley
Sen. Lisa Murkowski
Sen. Mitt RomneyHave all committed to not voting on a New SCOTUS Justice until after 20 January 2021
That leaves 49 Republican Senators, or less, standing alone.

Twitter users called on the Republicans who would likely be deciding votes in the confirmation hearing of a nominee.
Silent Republican Senators who were hoping that we’d save their asses on Election Day now have to save ours.
Looking at you Sens. Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Toomey, Sasse…
SCOTUS

Please join me in praying specifically for Romney & Collins & the on-the-fence folks who could be the deciding votes in the hearing of a SCOTUS justice who could be the vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. God give them strength for this battle.

A former Democrat member of the Utah State Senate announced on Twitter that he had some “Breaking” inside news on Romney’s position.
“A high-level Romney insider tells me Mitt Romney has committed to not confirming a Supreme Court nominee until after Inauguration Day 2021,” former Utah Democratic Party chairman Jim Dabakis tweeted, along with the hashtag #Mittrevenge.

His words gave the left a ray of hope amid their unhinged meltdowns and hysteria.
#Mittrevenge God bless you sen. Romney, seriously. Thank you for having principles and a conscience.

But the senator’s office soon threw ice water on the fire, with Romney communications director Liz Johnson calling the rumor “grossly false,” and adding #fakenews.

Journalist Yashar Ali confirmed the message from Romney’s office, adding that the Utah Republican would address Ginsburg’s “life and legacy” and not the confirmation process.
8. Senator Romney’s office tells me that this tweet is false and that the Senator will not be commenting on process this evening. Instead he is going to speak about her life and legacy. https://t.co/cliJjO9O8y

Romney, who did vote with his party in February against the second article of impeachment against Trump, issued a statement himself about the passing of Ginsburg.
“Justice Ginsburg served our nation with a deep reverence for the law and our Constitution. Her fight for women’s equality inspired all women to pursue their dreams without limits, and her grit, character and sharp wit made her an iconic and inspirational jurist beloved by people young and old,” he wrote.

— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) September 19, 2020
“The beautiful friendship she shared with the late Justice Scalia serves as a reminder to all Americans to treat each other with kindness and respect, despite our differences. Justice Ginsburg’s record of distinguished service leaves an indelible mark on our country that will endure for generations to come,” Romney added. “She and her husband Martin shared a full life together, and Ann and I pray tonight that her family finds comfort during this time.”
While many continue to hope in Romney and the other RINO’s to oppose Trump’s attempt to fill the SCOTUS seat before November’s election, some offered a bit of a reality check.
I gotta ask…Why are so many putting faith in Mitt Romney voting against Mitch regarding SCOTUS nomination? This is the Mitt Romney that had dinner with Trump while begging for a job in Trump’s Russian regime. Romney is just another GOP, power hungry MFer. Hope I’m proven wrong.

Meanwhile, the president seems to have indicated he will be moving ahead with his nomination.
