Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly came out in defense of Newt Gingrich as the fallout continued over an eyebrow-raising segment on the network.
More than three years after O’Reilly was fired from Fox News, he pointed a finger at network hosts for failing to understand the point Gingrich was making when his mention of George Soros created an awkward on-air moment.

O’Reilly replayed the segment from this week’s “Outnumbered” episode with Gingrich, as the former speaker of the House discussed how billionaire progressive activist Soros was providing the money that helped fuel many of the riots that erupted across U.S. cities in the last few months following the death of George Floyd.
“I’m not going to comment on Fox News personnel. I’m going to tell you the truth, because Speaker Gingrich knows the truth,” O’Reilly said on his show.
Fox News co-hosts Melissa Francis and Marie Harf pushed back at the mention of Soros, claiming he “doesn’t need to be a part of this conversation.” Harris Faulkner announced they were “going to move on” after the awkward exchange as Gingrich was interrupted.
O’Reilly reiterated that Soros has “donated $17 million to county races to get far-left progressives into the district attorney’s office.”
“That is a fact,” he said as he provided several examples of the large sums of money Soros has poured into the county-level races.
“So Gingrich is absolutely correct, absolutely right. Now none of the people on the panel seemed to understand what Gingrich was talking about,” O’Reilly said.
“But the rule is, if you invoke the name George Soros, then you are anti-Semitic because Soros is Jewish… That’s what the ladies were responding to,” he continued.
“So why aren’t they buying into that? This is a factual story,” O’Reilly said. “George Soros is using his billions of dollars to undermine the justice system in the United States… and we have our stats to back it up, and you can’t discuss that? Something really, really wrong going on.”
Faulkner addressed the flap with Gingrich on the air during “Outnumbered” on Thursday.
“So, we had a little incident on the show yesterday that was not smooth. And while I was leading that segment we had interruptions and I sat silently while all of that played out, also not ideal,” she said.
“Our guest former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is beloved and needed to be allowed to speak with the openness and respect that this show is all about, was interrupted,” Faulkner added.

“Do we debate with fire here? Yes,” she continued. “But we must also give each other the space to express ourselves. As the only original member of the six-year-old amazing daytime ride known as ‘Outnumbered,’ I especially want to rock ‘n’ roll with every voice and perspective at the table.
“We don’t censor on this show,” she said. “And that’s why we are winning weekdays at noon.”
Gingrich himself addressed the incident in a column titled “The Soros Cover-Up” published in The American Mind.
“When I brought up Soros’s plan to get pro-criminal, anti-police prosecutors elected across the country, two of the show’s participants interrupted me and forcefully asserted that Soros was not involved,” he wrote, referring to the “Outnumbered” segment, adding that Faulkner seemed “stunned by the interruptions, and did her part to move the show forward after some awkward silence.”
“Immediately after the show, Twitter and other social media went crazy. People were alleging that any criticism of Soros’s political involvement is automatically false, anti-Semitic, or both. This is ludicrous. Soros’s plan to elect these prosecutors has been well documented already—and it has nothing to do with his spiritual or ethnic background,” Gingrich asserted, giving several examples.
“I am alarmed to see that the force of this groupthink on social media appears to be strongly influencing professional media,” he added.
“I think the heart of this mass denial is that Democrats and the Left are watching the terrible human cost of their misguided, pro-criminal, anti-police justice policies, and they are beginning to worry that the American people will realize who is responsible for them,” Gingrich concluded. “America will suffer if our professional media continue to be overruled by our social media.”
